Tips for taking off stuck oil filter

Re: Tips for taking off stuck oil filter (redteg1)
When I couldn't get my oil filter off the first time when I was changing my oil and the cheap *** oil wrench would not grip, I said **** it and got the honda oil cap. Works like a charm.
Just got a digi cam so I'm going crazy with it.

Screwdriver is a risky move. if you tear the outer part of the filter, there is no way it will come off. I will never use that method again.

Re: Tips for taking off stuck oil filter (Halo)
everyone who has suggested using a sandpaper knows their ****.
sandpaper is the way to get that thing off. a 200 grit sandpaper always
works for me. jus make sure you are far enough under the car so you
can get some leverage. i usually go as far as my belly button area near
the control arm. GET YOUR *** WAY IN THERE. you'll get that **** out.
SANDPAPER!!!

Re: Tips for taking off stuck oil filter (keys)
damn I sure wish I knew about the sandpaper method before I stabbed my filter. Has anyone ever done or heard of anyone doing any damage to the engine block using the screwdriver stab method?
BTW nice camera, what kind is it?

So I'm guessing no one has ever damaged their block or heard of anyone damaging their block using the screwdriver stab method?

Leather belt works, but I've snapped a few before on cars that are factory tightened. Filter wrenches work great if you can fit it on the filter.
Sandpaper or a nice mechanic's glove also will make a tough filter a ton easier to pop off.

Punch a screw driver into it and unscrew.
