Default anyone here an accountant?

some how i will be graduating in a year Click the image to open in full size. and will only have 127 college credits. now to take the CPA exam you have to have 150 credits. i was looking for some advice as what to do for the additional 22 credits i need? ive talked to David W.(thanks again man) but was wondering if anyone was in the same boat as me and what are you doing for the additional credits? i was thinking about double majoring in economics but i dont know if it will be benifical, also i could just take bs classes at a CC or goto grad school. if anyone has any advice/experience that would be cool. all of our counselors at my school have no idea what to recomend Click the image to open in full size.

The girl I roomed with went to grad school. She says it'll end up helping alot more in the long run because of all the extra scenarios and knowledge gained from the courses during grad school. I want to be a CPA myself Click the image to open in full size. Click the image to open in full size.

yea, i was leaning more towards that but ive talked to a few seniors that actually went to grad school and they say that the pay isnt very different from a cpa that went to grad school to one that hasnt. i suppose later down the road in my carrer it may help me get some higher positions though

Ok you need to take classes to get those extra credits. Why not do the grad school route because it full fills the original requirements for the CPA along with then you will have graduated from Grad school. Something else that can make you a little more qualified than others out their. Even if it doesnt help get you more money it will help you look better compared to others.

The one area I hate about business is Accounting. I even thought about getting my CPA before just because I could prolly work through it to get it.

Just take pottery classes at your local community college. This is what my friend did to meet the requirements. Luckily I live in NY and the requiremnts are still 130 credits and I just passed the auditing and regulation part of the exam......not looking forward to the FARS parts.

yea, i may go the grad school route. the only problem is when i go in for interviews with accounting firms for internships they turn me down because i will not be graduating with atleast 150 credits. so i am kind of worried i wont find a job until i am done with grad school which is 2 years away

lol...I went to Bryant College out in RI for accounting (BS/BA in accounting)... went straight on to graduate school (Bryant College - MBA in accounting)

I got out & went to work for a CPA firm for 2 years (during which time I took the CPA exam once after spending $1400 for a review class - failed all 4 parts... Click the image to open in full size. working for the CPA firm was good experience but overall Click the image to open in full size. didn't like it) then worked (2yrs) for a home heating oil co as the assistant controller - owner sucked ***** to work for Click the image to open in full size. Click the image to open in full size.

now I work as a controller for a large retail/cafe/furniture business (9,000,000 in sales) & I love it...I work 6-7 days a week but I love it...owner is great to work for & company has 90+ females and 12 males on payroll Click the image to open in full size. thank god

when I was in college I had wanted to be a CPA too...once you work in public accounting you may change you mind/view.... private accounting is where its at for me Click the image to open in full size. Click the image to open in full size.

I took several accting classes (all of 'em actually) & several finance classes
AIS (accounting information systems - microsoft access based)
corporate tax
individual tax
auditing 1 & 2
advanced accounting
governmental accounting
advanced auditing
accounting 1 & 2
financial management
investments

hopefully I'll get my BA in accounting by 07' summer--I plan ontaking the CPA and already have an internship lined up this summer with the FED. Res. Bank (chicago).

I have though about double majoring but probably will just minor is MIS--

Ideally I want to get into a company who will eventually pay for grad school (MBA)

took me 3yrs to finish grad school Click the image to open in full size.... I went to school part-time & worked part-time as a bookkeeper Click the image to open in full size. decent $ for a part time job...

either way you go Click the image to open in full size. best of luck...if you do take additional classes I would take more accounting / finance / IS / mgmt classes as they can be very helpful down the road even tho they can be more work at the time (then say a "pottery class" Click the image to open in full size.)

Go to grad school, get your masters, then sit for the CPA. You'll be set with all that.

The man my mom is dating is a CPA and he makes MEGA BANK...but drives an Oddesey Click the image to open in full size. Anywho, I was part time as a book keeper myself!

I def say go to grad school. It won't at all..just a couple more years of your life spent in school. If your smart enough to go to college anyways, then why not go all way!

My school offers something called the 3/2 program...its a 5 year program that gives you a combined Bachelors/Masters of Accounting. If I didnt do the 3/2 program I guess I would go back to grad school anyway since I would need more credits to take the CPA exam.

127+22= 149
you should take a math class Click the image to open in full size.

You should try to get a related major/minor like finance or economics if you decide to earn the extra credits. I know a few people who went off to work as CPA's, and haven't found the job as fulfilling as they thought it would be. 2 of them are back in school for finance now.
