Default air conditioning on B16 EF hatch. What modifications needed to use P54 bracket?

I bought a P54 bracket to try to hook up my A/C to the B16 in my '89 hatch. I already ground a little off the bottom of the bracket to get it to clear the front cross member, but the compressor is not even close to fitting on the bracket. First of all there is interference between the cross member and the compressor. Second, the four holes through the compressor do not match up with the threaded holes in the bracket. If I align up one of the top holes, the other one does not line up. I cannot see the bottom two holes.

How many of the four compressor bolts can I use? What does it take to make this setup work? I have a Sanden compressor.

p54 bracket is for using AC in an EG or EK with a b-series. you need the HASport AC kit for EF chassis.

Somehow that old wives tale about the P54 stays around.

I've got a B18C in my EF and have wanted to re-install the AC. I've also got the Sanden compressor.

I managed to find a dealer that had a P54 in stock and I took my compressor to see if it would bolt up. No way!

I think the only way that a P54 would be of value would be if you use an EG (R12)compressor. Then there is the issue that the hook up of the hoses is different (based on the compressors I've checked out).

I just got the Hasport "EFAC" bracket (kit) and it solves pretty much everything.

I believe you can also use the AC bracket from the del sol that came with a b16. (someone correct me if I'm wrong.)

I believe the P54 bracket is the Del Sol one.

Thanks for the good info.

I was mislead by some previous posts that came up on a search.

The one used on the CRV's is similar to the Del Sol one but has a different number than "P54". (the Del Sol bracket has "P54" cast into it) I also looked at that one and you are in the same situation where it will not bolt up the 89 Sanden compressor.

As I commented on in regards to the P54, you may be able to find an R12 compressor that bolts up, but then the hose fittings would be different.

This is all "nit-picking" in the wording but I'd like to kill the rumor that there is a simple OEM solution!

I'd have prefered a "factory" look, but the Hasport EFAC bracket kit is the most straight forward solution.

I'm with ya on the OEM parts Wes.

I even used a Prelude intake arm to the stock airbox on my GSRed CRX.

If you cut the motor mount off the GSR's original AC mount what would that do, put the compressor into the radiator?

Clearance to the radiator is a function of several things (b motor in Ef or CRX).

Placement of the engine is one and it varies from motor mount kit to motor mount kit.

Another issue is the fan that is specific to the AC unit.

On my set-up, I'm using mounts fabricated similar (in geometry) to Place Racing and that sets the engine pretty much as forward as any of the mounts.

Using the Hasport bracket, there is room for the compressor, but not the fan. I'm going to swap over to pusher fans.

If you use the P54 or GSR bracket, you would have to use the compressor that is correct to that bracket and I don't know how close to the block they are. Even if the compressor fits, then there is the issue of the direction that the hoses go. They may also conflict with the radiator.

One more issue would be if the GSR or Del Sol compressor is larger in diameter. That could cause issues.

In other words; not a lot of information here, but things to think about.
