Default Valve Adjustment on B18a1 LS 90-91 vs 92+

i just did a valve adjustment on my 90 integra. i was wondering if the specs i got was right.

B18A
INTAKE: 0.006" - 0.007" (0.15mm - 0.19mm)
EXHAUST: 0.007" - 0.008" (0.17mm - 0.21mm)

B18B
INTAKE: 0.003" - 0.005" (0.08mm - 0.12mm)
EXHAUST: 0.006" - 0.008" (0.16mm - 0.20mm)

i did 0.006 for intake and 0.007 for exhaust. someone please verify this with me because my intake side seemed to be a little tighter before i adjusted them. also, now it seems to have a slightly different ticking sound. on a better note.. it seems to be running good

edit: damn it.. now that i think of it.. i might have did that backwards. i might have done 0.006 on exhaust and 0.007 on intake. i'll just have to check tomorrow morning. it should be ok to run it like that for a day i hope

dont worry about it too much... i've takin heads apart that had .016 valve clearance and they ran fine (except a little loud.)

the specs are:

90-91 b18a:
.0059-.0075 intake
.0066-.0083 exhaust

92-93 b18a
.003-.005 intake
.006-.008 exhaust

94-up b18b
.003-.005 intake
.006-.008 exhaust

i dont see why the clearance for the B18A would be different than the B18B

but they are as you have them

IN: .003-.005
EX: .006-.008

you would ideally want them as tight as the specs allow for.

yea i use the .003IN and .006 ex on my 93 ls engine.

i think the loser clearances on the 90-91 engines are due to the smaller cams possibly

it depends on the track/weather conditions (if you're talking race car) for clearance

looser will build torque earlier by actually lowering valve lift at an earlier crank degree but still allowing full valve lift when your at full lobe lift on the cam.

tighter ofcourse allows the cam to kick in earlier in the crank rotation.

this is all things that wouldn't matter on a street car (cause theres not enough all around performance to be gained). if you're ever playing around on a dyno though... try some different lash settings and see what you get.

for your street car, just set within the spec. anything within the spec will do.

yeah thats what i figured too since the cams are a little different on the 90-91 heads

I dont think thats it; the base of the cam where clearances are measured is the same; if so there would be different tolerances for different vtec motors.
I think maybe honda just realized that they could run them a lil. tighter?

For me:
.003" intake
.006 Exhaust

This resulted in very loud valvetrain (B18B 97)

Re adjusted to .006" intake and .007 Exhaust
