crankshaft pulley key holds what?
On thanksgiving day my crankshaft pulley came off.So the next day my old man i worked on the car. The key for the crankshaft pulley was broken. The slot where it goes in the rod or sprocket was slight chipped because of the impact. So we slapped on some j b weld. Waited 24hrs then the next day we put on some threadlocked on the bolt and put everthing back together. Oh btw we had to use a civic crankshaft pulley from a 92 because the original one was cracked. The thing was kinda hard to slide it in we had to it with the of an extension and a hammer.
My question is does the key hold the sprocket too? the reason i say this because the key would stick out a little bit like 1/2cm or this is only for the crankshaft pulley. I have picture and u tell me. this is on a 99 civic sohc.

nevermind i can see that the sprocket goes inside the rod and has nothing to do with the external key(rectangle). Am i right?
So nothing happened to the sprocket?

I'm not quite sure what you are asking. But, if you are asking if you can get away with not having the key in there the answer is "no".
Just go to the dealership and get one. No sense in risking your engine over something so small.

is this a common problem on eg's, i have had 2 motors now and each of them have had the key fall out and pulley fall off. It is a pain in the ***. Anyone have suggestions to prevent this. Used locktight both time when we put them back on.

in a way it does, but why does it matter?
Put key in, put on pulley, torque bolt, DONE. Nothing should fall off.
