ok turn the caps lock off. first what year is the accord? what trim? How many miles I think it could be a bad motor mount.

Someone may have put non-Honda fluid in the transmission. Do you know if this could have been done? If so, put some Honda trans fluid in, and it may help. If the change helps, you may have to flush the other fluid by changing it three times, driving it a short distance between each change.

1994-1997 honda accords have common problems at high mileage of shifting very harsh, go out and get a bottle of Lubeguard conditioner and add it to your auto trans. fluid

will probably fix the problem, if it doesnt, wont hurt it a bit

i just had my tranny rebuilt. it went out at 118xxx.... i miss the ruff shifting. i miss the old tranny all together... the car shaking may be a bad motor mount.

Don't ever put an additive in a Honda transmission. If it's shifting rough it's because of a problem. Adding something to the fluid is like putting a band aide over a bullet wound. Depending on the year and the such a rough shift is usually caused by bad fluid or a solenoid problem (Linear shift solenoid is a usual culprit).

Also older accords have problems with the valve bodies getting clogged. That requires a teardown. (big bucks)

did any of you guys read this. if it idles rough in park or Neutral the tranny is not the problem. I also doubt Even at a light In drive with a rough idle the tranny is too blame.
I think Check you mounts first.

I'm betting it's a 4th gen accord with a bad engine mount.

Do this

1. check fluid level
2. check motor mounts (front and rear. the rear has a vaccume line)
3. add a can of lubeguard for imports.

1. self explanatory

2. use a friend and have them start the car and after applying the e-brake and with their foot on the brake put the car in gear. if the engine moves excessively, replace any broken mounts

3. do this right after a fluid change

I know the fifth gens (96 is a 5th gen right?, i always forget) have an electric motor mount that softens and stiffens up. Sounds like a likely culprit and doesn't sound cheap. Damn the advantages of having a stick just keep on mounting!

When I first got my 4th gen I read the service manual, and it said that the throtle cable could be adjusted to control shift harshness. I adjusted and readjusted until I got tired of adjusting. After I had the car for a couple years I got used to it. You will too. It may take a while. Of course I don't know how bad yours actually is compared to mine.

yeah, my 92 honda lx also has a jerky shift problem, which is quite uncomfortable sometimes. which brings to my question, you were talking about adjusting it. Does it really help? cause it didn't help after i drain and refill the tranny, which a friend told me could be the cause. Also, how would you adjust on a 92 honda accord lx, where's the location, thanks.

It's the one up behind the throttle body ( two like 10mm nuts on a threaded rod). But like I said, I adjusted it until I was blue in the face, so to speak, and it didn't change anything. They had a procedure for adjusting it, but I don't remember what it was. And the service manual went with the car when I sold it. Sorry. After about 2 or 3 years, you get used to it. haha
You can play around with it, if you like, just remember this. If it raises the idle too much you won't be able to get the trans out of park. Good luck guys.
