d16a8 installed + today fly + HD clutch...there is a tapping noise at idle ?
hi all- quick run down -
installed a replacement engine + new toda flywheel + exedy HD clutch in my old civic recently. All went well.
Very recently tho , the car makes a semi-loud "Tapping" noise from the gearbox region.
This noise , goes away once the clutch is pressed in - and its irrelevant whether in gear of in neutral.
So , sofar i have concluded that the noise is not coming from the engine but something inbetween the gearbox and block...clutch or flywheel ?!? AFAIK it isnt coming from the gearbox - AND the "noise" is not consistant.
any ideas

sounds like throwout bearing and make sure you properly aligned the clutch and all.

How do you "align" a clutch? I always hear people talk about this, but after installing my Centerforce II, the whole thing seemed like a failsafe process where you really couldn't go wrong. Either it went in, or it didn't.

you align the clutch b4 you tighten the pressure plate down, usually with a clutch kit it goes with a little black clutch alignment tool

Well, I did that, but when the input shaft of the transmission goes in to the engine, it grabs the clutch, and when it all bolts up, it all lines up anyways?

yes , when installing the gearbox the clutch plate and pressure plate have to be 100% installed correctly otherwise the gearbox simply wont line up and CANt be installed.
BUMP for help/ideas - ive noticed when listening CLOSELY at idle , the "tapping" noise goes away at the slightest touch of the clutch pedal. any ideas ?
