anyone have any quick tips on temporary muffler silencing
I have a track car that I have to load and unload to tow to events that is straight piped to a muffler and is very loud. Does anyone have any suggestions for a temporary way of silencing the muffler while loading it on trailer so that i dont annoy the neighbors? Or know of any attatchments that i can screw on the tip to muffle the sound and take off at the track? thanks

Use a two friends muffler i.e. have two buddies push the car onto the trailer, or just load the car enough times that the neighbors go deaf and wont care anymore.

That's what I used to use. Just pop a couple discs on the end for quiet, take off everything for race use.

on a serious note. If you get fiberglass insulation from home depot. That would work very well if you packed it up the pipe.. And then it should blow out or use a coat hanger..

Re: anyone have any quick tips on temporary muffler silencing (SJR)
I've had some reasonably good luck with this..
Measure the inside of the diamter of your exhaust pipe and head over to Home Depot or Lowes and get a cast iron pipe fitting (sink trap)with the same outside diameter but with a really small inside diameter (I found a 2 1/4" sink trap with a 1" internal hole..Put a 3" long piece of the 1" pipe on it and drilled 2 holes through the exhaust pipe and tapped into the pipe fitting. Then thread some bolts into it so it will stay put. I drove all the way to Mass from NJ with no problem..(the 1" pipe goes back into the exhaust pipe not sticking out from the exhaust)...Homemade silencer..
Cut the noise easily in half and after I added a little antiseize, the bolts came right back out even after an entire winter..

ill try the steel wool thing attatched to a coat hanger or something. i just need to muffle the sound for a little. I would have just had a side out exhauyst but to noisy for the neighbor hood.

Get a piece of sheet metal, bend it to fit into the muffler/pipe, and get a clamp and clamp the restrictor (sheet metal) in there. Should dampen it quite a bit with the restriction

I live in Canada so I bought it at the local Canadian Tire - somewhat of a cross between a Pep Boys and Home Depot I suppose. I would think you could by it at any marine supply store or anywhere that stocks trailer accessories. I think mine cost about $70 which loosely translates to about $50 US.

If you need a temp track "noise police" fix there are other threads for that.
