Default 205/60/15 Wheels on my 95 EJ

Hey everyone, I didn't quite know where to post this but its about my wheels. Or the to-be mine wheels. They are 205/60/15. I was looking at 205/50/15's and Im wondering what the differance from 50 width to 60 width will be on my 1995 Civic EX Coupe... E.G. not as good handling, wont fit good, may rub... etc... also I am going to lower 2+ inches in the front/back...

I'm going to assume you are talking about the tire...not the wheel itself.

The "60" and "50" are actually sidewall heights, not width. Width is the "205" number.

"50" is actually a better option, and is the fairly standard size for many of our applications. That is what I am running on my hatch. And if you are planning on lowering your car, then getting the lower sidewall height is almost a must.

Here's a link if you want to learn some basics about tire sizing.

205/60/15 you'll run the risk of rubbing. i rubbed like crazy when i went from 195/50/15 to 205/55/15.

run the risk? he WILL rub, even if the car is not remotely lowered. not to mention, wreak havoc on the cars final drive. the car will accelerate more slowly, and the speedo will be way off. not a good idea imho. and i have been known for putting very odd tire setups on my cars.

*edit: wanted to show you some math so you do not think i am talking out of my ***....

22.74 overall diameter- 95 civic stock tire, 185/60-14
24.68 od- 205/60-15

this is a change of roughly 8.5%, that is a HUGE difference. civics are not very fast to begin with, so you will officially make it a pig by installing this size tire. go with a 205/50-15 and you will be very pleased.

that is a huge tire, don't bother.

205/50/15 is the biggest you'll want to run.
195/55/15 will also work nicely.

I was running 195/65/15 (don't ask why, they came with the Civic SI rims I bought) with around a 2" drop and they rubbed like a bitch. I have recently gone to 195/50/15 and have no problems anymore.

Yeah, it looked like ****, rode like ****, and rubbed like a bitch. I ended up tearing up my fenderlining and the noise was horrible.

Oh, Im sorry, I was confused, thank you for the help. Then I should be looking for 205/50/15s or 195/50/15s, I really appreciate you guys clearing that up. Just to clear it up:

the 205/50/15 is width/height/rim height, and applies to the tire not the rim correct?

Yes, those numbers apply to the tire.

205 - tire width
50 - sidewall height
15 - wheel diameter

The "50" is a percentage of the width. In the case of 205/50-15, the tire is 205mm wide and the sidewall is 50% of 205, meaning that the sidewall is about 102.5mm tall.

Correct. Although, 195/55/r15 and 205/50/r15 are also acceptable.

edit: In most cases 195/55/15 will be the tallest of all 3 sizes.
