Default Dog is Drooling and is not moving much

I know there was a post on seizures in someones dog. But this is different. To start off my dog does have seizures usually once every month or so. But lately they are becoming almost a biweekly event. Today I came home from work and the dog seemed fine. He has been acting more lazy then usual, but nothing too much out the ordinary. Now he is just laying there and drooling uncontrollably. I am taking him to the vet tomorrow, but i was wondering if you guys had any idea what it might be?

Symptoms:
Not Eating
Drooling
Seems in pain when he does get up
very lazy

My first instinct was Lyme Disease...my other dog had it a few months ago and this dog seems to have similar symptoms. Except the drooling. My other dog I dont recall drooled so much

My other option was Heartworm...but he was tested in Aug and it came up clean. We havent given him any heartworm medicine since then so that is an option. But I always thought it took like 6 months for heartworm to kick in.

Either way if there is anyone who knows or has had this problem please let me know

TIA
Zeke

I would take him to the vet today, unless they are already closed. My dog is 14 now and it is really starting to show. I hope everything works out ok. Click the image to open in full size.

Unfortunately, that's what it sounds like to me. Hope it isn't though.

(Not getting another dog until I'm so old it will outlive me. They're too hard to lose.)

Where to start...first off, its really inexpensive to vaccinate your dog for lyme disease and get heartworm medication. Lyme disease vaccinations are somewhere in the $15-20 range (yearly vaccination) and 6 months worth of Interceptor (heartworm and parasite preventative) is about $65. So I would highly recommend those two things. Its a whole lot cheaper to do $200 worth of preventative medicine a year than try to treat a disease after it's onset (ie. Parvo vaccinations for puppy= $50-70, treating parvo= quite possibly $1000+)

As far as your dog's symptoms, there is a lot of reasons for seizures in dogs. Heartworm isn't really one of them. If your dog had heartworm, he would be tired, but you would see him coughing a lot. Cancer is possible, but unlikely based on your dog's age (depending on the breed). What you need to do is go to your vet and request a blood panel screening. They will draw his blood and be able to analyze it to determine the cause of the seizures (most likely any way). After that, depending on the tests, they will most likely prescribe Phenobarbital or another seizure medication.

I work in a vet clinic....your dog doesnt sound very good...you should def take him to the vet and get bloodwork and maybe even xrays. If it has been going on for a while it could be anything. If the dog is older def get the bloodwork done. If he isnt eating it might be some sort of cancerous mass in the abdomen.

my bf's parents had a chow chow that used to have seizures, lay on the floor and shake, puke up foam/food etc. Sad thin is it only got worse with time. One day he just didnt wake up. I think they should have put him down to avoid any further suffering.. Click the image to open in full size.

Took him to the vet...they said they couldnt fit him in when i called at 305, but they called back 10 mins later and i got him in they did some tests everything came up negative. They said watch him for 24 hrs and if he continues to act that way bring him in again.

He is not drooling anymore and is walking around okay. He is still gimpy (although he always is...hes got bad hips) but he seems better. It might have been something he ate. Thats all i can think of.

You didn't feed him chocolate did you...just a wild guess but hope he's ok. I'd be worried shitless if it was my dog too.

BTW, this is a good dog forum: http://www.i-dog.com/board/bin/discus.cgi
