Default Does anyone have a "monkey bar"?

I've seen these before and they are somewhat expensive...like $250+.
ya know....the bar that goes in the back along the floor, over the little hump and connects near the seat belt bolt.
Its suppose to improve handling by reducing flex, I guess, i don't really know.

I was just curious about it and wondered if anyone has an opinion about them

I got a monkey bar.
it likes the back, yep the hump on the floor.

um yeah.

not seen any in person yet, I think its kinda not a great/useful/quality/necessary product, otherwise you would have seen it by a few more manufacturers....

true...that's kinda what I figured.

but what was the part about "I got a monkey bar. it likes the back, yep the hump on the floor. um yeah."
if you've never seen one...how do you have one??
wait...maybe you were being sarcastic, huh??

I'm of the opinion that if you are willing to go that far, you may as well just get a real rollbar from Autopower for a little more money, that will definitely improve chassis ridgidity. Those monkey bars look really unsafe to me, especially if you have passengers in the back seat.

yeah I wondered about that. where do you put your feet if you are riding in the back.....on the bar I guess.
there's another kind of bar though that goes in the back somehow...i think this is called a monkey bar too.
I wasn't planning on getting one.....just was curious exactly what they do

they make what is called a harness bar that is along the same lines. But you never want to install a harness bar without a roll over protection sytem of high quality installed first

Monkey Bars are for show purposes only I think. I know they don't meet all of those safety standards and what not for track use. They look very silly in person, it looks like somebody had a **** load of piping and a welder at home and made a full piping interior. I agree with the rest of the folks here MONKEY BARS ARE GAY!

I don't think I am talking about the same thing as you all.....maybe they aren't called monkey bars. its just one bar that goes from one side of the body to the other, flat. kinda like a strut bar. ??? I have only seen one person that makes em...but I guess the overall vote is: GAY!!!!!

I know what that bar is...that thing is useless in a Civic. There's a massive chassis member just under the rear seat cushion that will pretty much take care of the duties that bar is supposed to handle just fine. I think that one is for looks, too.

How bout the RS Akimoto one that goes where the rear passengers have their feet? That one should not be unsafe right?

heh heh I was just messing with you, and being sarcastic.. too much talk about monkeys, humping and bars in the rear end.

Yes ye sI know what you are talkign about. The bar is one tube that follows the rear passengers floorpan, up and over the hump in the middle (behind the armrest). This bar attaches to each side of the floorpan where the oem seatbelts mount for the front passengers. The bar has a long thin flat section at each end for this mounting to the floorpan side.
Looks like this from the rear or front-

I_________/----\________I

I have seen pics and it looks 'cool' in that it is heading into race-mod-style-stuff, but it also seems to be the case that the bar is in a place that NO other company sees any problems with chassis flex.. if they did, you would see overpeiced bars from Spoon, Mugen and Vision for sure.
Again, it might help you reduce chassis flex, but I suppose if you do not have high performance tires, big swaybars, stiff spring rates, heavy duty shocks, and also front, rear, upper and lower strut tower bars...
then this mod is one of the last things on your need-to-get list

Just so you'll know, the REAL monkeybars "roll cages" are a complete joke, they turn a car into a deathtrap on wheels... You're safer without anything at all than you are with a monkeybars setup.

Plus, if you had all this stuff, you'd probably be more prone to get a full rollcage...

Monkey Bars is the company. RS Akimoto/AVANCHE is the distributor for these useless parts. The look at what else monkey bars make. I agree with mugeneg6, Monkey bars belong in the Zoo!

fake rollbar!
seen it and its bolted in at 2 points only
not intended for any form of safety device
why waste your money when for a few extra bucks you can get the autopower
street bar which is approved for track use
and it is functional
why mess with your own safety

--->like ME! for $300 for a nice, crossbraced autopower bolt-in "race rollbar" you cant go wrong, and with inaccessible rear seats, that makes sure I can only be ONE drunk person's designated driver.

i dont see this setup helping with the chassis in flex reduction
again it mounts in 2 points only...same area where a main hoop does and
there are no backing plates...
you would be better of with either a street bar or a chassis harness brace
