How long of turn around time would it take to have a shock dyno'd? I may be interested in sending my omni's in for dyno'ing but I need them on the car in less then a month.

Can anyone comment on what kind of shock-dyno results would be optimum for a drag-race setup (without wheelie bars)?

That's what im trying to learn as well. Im thinking the low speed areas of the map are most important in drag.

RJ - has anyone approached Rinde about getting some of his stuff dyno'd? I've heard the Motons are sitting on a shelf uninstalled. And if they're on the car, he should have some Mugen lowdowns available.
Also, didn't Ratcliffe take the Motons (or JRZs or whatever) off his original H3 car to make it ITS legal? |

I'll see if he has them

Here is the front suspension dyno for my 98 200SX SE-R. Just got revalved by Pro-Parts/Tri-Point. These are the authorized Koni rebuilder here in the LA area. Tri-Point runs/builds the Mazda cars in the WC series. I went to their store and I was drooling over these cars.
These are DA 80 series Koni dampers. Notice the low speed tuning and the 95% match between the left and right shocks. I will run 650 front springs with these. http://www.geocities.com/n_dah...n.jpg I welcome all comments if there are any issues with the shocks. I just want to learn more about shock dynos. When I get a chance. I"ll take the KYB SSGs off my car and get them to Lee for testing.

Ok, so, I finally got around to having the Buddy Club Racing Spec Dampers tested. First off, thanks to Lee for providing the free service, for getting it all done quickly, and for overall being a stand-up and helpful guy.
I'll try to sum up what he said about them, and if anyone has more detailed questions, feel free to PM me (I'll be reiterating what he told me )- Similar to a lot of JDM kits, in that they're relatively linear, with not much emphasis on low speed rebound of bump, but they are at the better end of that range. - Lee- "rebound adjusting range is probably one of the widest that I have seen of the JDM stuff, that is good as it gives you more options to adjust within however it is mostly in the mid to higher speed where it has the effects and not really in the low speed range where the subtle motions of the car would be effected." -Well matched side-to-side, number of clicks doesn't represent the same position in the adjustment range itself (5 of 15 clicks is not 30% stiff or whatever) [It was more like 5 clicks = 25%, 10 clicks = 50%, 15 clicks = max] -The front shocks were a little weird apparently; with "the biggest thing is the obscene amount of force that they make in the upper end (10,000+ Newtons at .33 meter)." There's a crapload of explanation about that, boiling down to something like the fronts are sort of overdamped, and are definitely overdamped higher than 10 clicks. There's also the issue of heat absorption, apparently typical of needle valve shocks. That is to say, the shocks have a tendency to fade due to the design, and greater stiffness would exacerbate that problem. For the brief subjective review, the roads have been crappy with ice and snow lately, so I haven't really been able to fiddle with them. Currently, the shocks are set to 0F/0R, just to get a feel for them. This "feels" understeerish, which I expected. When the weather gets nicer I'll mess with them more. They are indeed very stiff feeling, but also nice and solid. Comparing them to my previous Zeal Function B6s, they feel a little better, although the design isn't nearly as nice. Also compared to the more recent KYB AGX with Skunk2 coilovers, it's a night and day difference, with everything being better. Annnnnd now that I'm ready to post the charts, I find that We-todd doesn't allow PDF files. Anyone want to help me out? |
