why is my oil light flashing
If the oil pressure drops too low, the oil light is supposed to come on steady. However mine flashes. Just started this today after washing my car, I don't remember it doing it when I backed it out of the garage, and it definitely was not doing it last night.
The Helm's says the oil pressure light will flash if the pressure drops too low for 0.5 seconds and then returns to normal. But I tried turning the engine off, and then starting it again and it's still flashing. Engine oil level is fine.

It's flashing constantly? I know I ran my engine level low once and my oil light would flash and then return to normal like helms says.

It just keeps flashing when the engine is running.
When I turn the key to ON, the oil light is on obviously because there's no oil pressure. But after starting the car, the oil light just flashes.

hey patrick,
does your year model integra have an "ICM"???
i have a 2nd gen teg and the general consensus among the 2nd gen ownersis the icm is the culprit when the sender is good, wiring is good, and oil pressure is in spec.

That occassional oil flashing would happen to my friend in his 94 integra rs......then one night on a long trip to PA at about 70 mph in 4th gear.......smoke and bang.....and a egg sized hole in his block left him stranded.
Never found out what exactly caused it, but the oil light had been flashing for a week or two before that.....but never steady......so be careful

Re: why is my oil light flashing (Cjsls)
holy smokes
Could an ICM be the same as the Integrated Control Unit? I looked at the wiring diagram for the ICU, and there is a section that says "Engine Oil Pressure Indicator Flasher Circuit", and from that there are 2 wires, one wire goes to the oil pressure switch and to the oil pressure indicator light, and the other wire goes too the voltage regulator on the alternator and the battery indicator light.
Now suddenly today, I also had this problem: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1089042
So my battery light is on while the car is off, but goes off when it's started, AND my oil pressure light is flashing. Could the ICU be the problem??

yes sir .
i have the same problem...bugs the hell out of me but i know that i have good oil pressure and i've replaced the sender twice. so im certain its the icu, but they're pretty pricey...i've looked into getting one at a junkyard but id hate to pay for something that i don't know will work or not you know.

After seeing what happened to my friend, I would advise you to not drive your car unless you absolutely have to, till you find out what it is for sure.

just out of curiousity did he have an oil pressure gauge? or did he verify the oil pressure when the light had been flashing?

Re: why is my oil light flashing (jojovtec)
yeah but the fact that the oil light started blinking AND I started having problems with the battery light pretty much at the exact same time, and the fact that there are wires coming from the same place in the ICU going to both the battery light and the oil pressure light both makes me think that it's probably the ICU.

no, he didn't have an oil pressure gauge. He checked his oil, and it didn't seem low; he thought it was some wiring issue or short........but then his engine went dry, out shot a rod, and out came all his oil from the hole. Some have suggest that his oil pump failed.

the battery light at the same time would suggest that, hope that's the answer
still wouldn't drive much till you fix that, and are 100 percent that is what was causing your oil light to blink.

Re: why is my oil light flashing (Cliffjumper2)
I will go through the diagnostic procedures listed in the Helm's tomorrow. But damn if I don't find the problem, I'm going to have to try to get my grandfather's pickup to drive to work, and that's going to suck on my 100 mile commute every day... it doesn't even have a tape deck in it.

Re: why is my oil light flashing (Cliffjumper2)
damn... and I had just put all my interior and sub/amp back in after fixing my taillight leak, after driving it stripped out for 2 weeks, and I was just starting to enjoy it again.

Re: why is my oil light flashing (PatrickGSR94)
i would recommend u get n an oil pressure gauge to make sure ur not run n on low oil pressure. its one of the most important gauges to get period!
maybe u have a loose wire coming from the oil pressure sensor and it is grounding out somewhere. when i installed my oil pressure gauge, i removed the stock pressure sensor and left the signal wire hang n. when i drove the car, the accleration and braking made this wire swing back and forth, make n contact with metal surcafes in the engine bay which grounded the wire. this tripped the oil pressure light.
check the wires to see if it's grounding out somewhere or check the ICU

Re: why is my oil light flashing (boosted k20)
try this tool at http://www.thetoolwarehouse.net Part # KD 3289 it's a oil pressure check kit. it's test from the where the oil filter is normally located at. it's one of the best tool I've used to make sure my engine is running in top condition. cost about $101.09. hope that can give you a idea.
