What type of transmission Fluid?
I have a 1989 civic, 4 speed. I would like to change the transmission fluid and i'm not sure what kind to get, does anyone know what kind it uses and how much to use. And is there a filter i have to change?

I would first get some Sea Foam trans cleaner and run that in the tranny with the old oil for about 15 min of 'spirited' driving. Then drain old fluid, refill with whatever you choose - I chose Castrol GTX 10w30 Cause I live by that brand - and then I used some Lucas Oil Stabilizer. With that combination I get slick shifts that always feel great and I've used this combination every 5k miles. BTW my car see's 7100 rpms quite often daily. - Darrell

Synchromesh Friction Modefied, either the GM or Penzoil version....

Synchromesh is good stuff. It's been used by many H-T members with good results. They say it eliminated their grinds completely after a few miles. I've noticed that only certain Autozones carry the Penzoil Synchromesh so you may have to look around.

I sold my friend my old Y1 LSD B16 tranny, it grinded in 3rd pretty bad, he used the GM syncromesh and after about a week maybe less, the grinding went away.

Yup, after about 50 miles it starts working and after several hundred it's like

I use syncomesh in my EK....it took a couple hundred miles but my 2nd to third grind disappeared..and the rest of the gears shift much better. That stuff is worth its weight in gold almost.

if you track the crap out of your car (road course/hpde/honda challange etc...) use Motul Gear 300, it's not cheep but the Type-R guys use it all the time in there trannys. For daily driving and occasonial autoxing use eather Honda MTF or Syncomesh. I personally use syncomesh but when i finsh building my new tranny (ZC 1-4, Si 5th and final drive, OBX LSD, Gear Speed carbon syncros) i'll use the Motul for some extra protection and to help out the LSD
