depending on the dealership, $60-80 for a master key (damn computer chips), $30-40 for remote.

60-80 for a key what the ****. I have had them copy them and half the time they don't even work. I really am not sure what they charged. Is it diff for the 6th or 7th gens than the 5th cause I don't think I payed anywhere near $60 but I may have. I know it didn't work except to unlock the doors and I think I would have been a little more pissed if it was that much. I got a local shop to copy mine and it works great. I just use it for a spare.

6th gen keys have a computer chip in them, and need to be programmed with the code to work... part of the immobilizer system. i don't believe they had that in the 96 accords. you can have a local shop make a copy of a 6th gen key, but it will only work in the doors and trunk. without the correct code sent from the computer chip, car won't start.

As for the remote, what remote are you talking about? Are you looking for a replacement key fob for your remote entry? If so, I believe that ebay would be the way to go... |

yea i actually made 2 keys at a hardware store, opened passenger door fine, opened the trunk fine, opened my door fine, tried to start the car.... haha, didn't happen.
i noticed remotes one bay sell for less than $10, that's prolly where i'll order one from and just get a key cut at the dealer for a rediculous price. thanks everyone.

Depending on how many Honda dealers you have within reasonable driving distance, it might not hurt to call several to get their replacement key prices.
As for the remote entry fob, here are the reprogramming directions (if you do pick up one off of ebay): http://www.handa-accessories.c...G.pdf |

thanks for the directions, i already found them thru google yesterday, thanks anyway.
can't wait to get the freakin car on the road already!! not registerd yet, nor insu... but when i get it on the road im goin straight to the dealer... the front tires have some thread, the back ones are bald.. he probably swapped the back ones to the front as the front is more important, gonna tell them to put new tires on the rear, rediculous.... can i get him to get me a key as well (first time buying from a dealer)? i mean the car didn't have a gas cap, some of interior lights didn't work, didn't provide me w/ radio code, only gave me 1 key, with a remote (w/ dead battery). so far i've spent around $40 on all these extras...

I know this is kinda off topic, but my friend's sister and my mom both drive a camry. He took his sister's key, unlocked my door, and started the engine

If I remember right (I've asked about it, but haven't done it), they charge so much labor to find the correct chip setting and to make the key, but after the first key the cost is only for the blank (no more labor). Thus one key might be $15 or $20, the second would be $3 or so more.
What I'm saying is that if you're getting one key made, check on getting a second or a third made at the same time. |

Take your VIN number and your title to your local Honda dealer and have a key cut.

+1 Do not cut a copied key from your 'worn out' key. It is best to get a fresh key made from the VIN #. After 18 years, my Accord's key was no longer working. I went to the dealership and cut a fresh key and it works beautifully. Its best to get a fresh key, rather than make a copy of the worn down key.
