New 97 acura CL 3.0, what to expect?
Picked it up today. Still getting to know it.
So here's a few concerns -
Transmission seems to shift a bit funny and not until about 3,000 to 4,000 RPMs. Normal or is there another problem? Sometimes the 2-1 downshift kind of shutters the car, but that may be related to...
Engine runs alright except it tends to "lope" rather quickly and idles at 1,500. Have not been able to get codes pulled yet, CEL is on. It starts alright and after a few seconds starts the loping process.
The driver seat is stuck all the way forward. I removed the seat, nothing seems to be blocking the tracks, I hooked the motor directly to the battery, the motor tries to move but cannot. Is there any practical way to adjust the seat manually or would I have to pretty much tear the whole thing down?

Pull CEL codes. This will tell you where the problems are, or what is most likely in need of attention.
Fix fast idle, and when you mean by lope to you mean like a large cammed engine, or does the engine rpm fluctuate up and down?
Transmission problems hard to tell until the engine is running correctly. Sensors that are used to run the engine can affect how the transmission shifts.
There may be something stuck in the track of the seat, you will most likely have to pull the motor off and look for damage.

I had a 98 CL, they're smooth running cars, when running right. Try changing the fluid in the transmission. Just do the dump and refill...then drive it a bit, then dump and refill, then drive a bit, then dump and refill again. Use good fluid...most recommend honda ATF. That firmed up the shifts in my transmission a good bit.
As far as the high idle and loping...you may need a new IACV. I had to replace mine..and it fixed it.

I changed the IACV under the TB today. No effect. It was a junk yard one I found. Thing is, when I went to disconnect it, it was already loose. Of course I plugged it back in and the idle stayed around 2500'ish, so it was a problem before and someone just disconnected it to "get by". After that didn't work is when I changed it.
Also, right next to the oil fill there is some kind of canister with a connector at the top, what is that device and does it have anything to do with idling?
I do need to have the codes pulled yet and shall do that tomorrow
