2011 Accord Coupe LX-S Cold Air Intake Issue
Hey guys, I recently just put in a K&N 69 series cold air intake. I'm having a problem where when I really give the car some gas, when I hit 2nd gear it revs all the way up to 6800 rpm's before it shifts to third. I was just wondering if this has to do anything with the VTEC or what it could possibly be. I was told by a friend that I could get a super chip to tune the engine and set it to shift at certain points. What do you guys think could be causing this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Is this the first time to put your foot into it and did it do that before? Cold air should not cause a trans problem.

It never did it before the cold air intake although I didn't really step on it as much as I do now. It's not that it's really a problem it just shifts really late. When I'm going and it gets up to really high rpm's, if I let my foot off the gas for a second it shifts.

When you're heavy on the gas pedal the transmission is supposed to hold out the lowest gear possible then shift up when necessary based on load, throttle position, and rpm (grade logic) so that say when climbing a hill the trans isn't constantly switching between gears. A "super chip" would only be a band aid if there were a problem, which a cold air intake wouldn't cause anyhow...unless something was unhooked during install. I think you're being hyper observant now that you've installed the intake and so you noticed the transmission holding out gears.

I'm in agreement. You're just noticing it more now. Maybe because it's louder, maybe because you're just nervous about the recent work, who knows? But my guess is that your car has done this from day 1. It's supposed to.
When the throttle is open, it's supposed to hold the gear until you're close to the rev limiter. You might be able to find specs on when gear changes are supposed to happen with an open throttle. I know my FSM for my Tacoma has that. My guess is that everything will be completely within spec.

Sounds good. I appreciate the feedback guys. I'll go ahead and look up the specs to see when it's actually supposed to shift.
