1st Gen CR-V - Tranny-Questsions
Hi guys
Anybody knows the tranny-code and the specs (specialy the FD) of the 1st gen CR-V 5MT AWD?
Is it possible to change the final drive with an other B-serie transmission? Anyone tried to combine the AWD with a LSD?
Thanks for your help!

When I did my search on transmissions for crv's, there really isn't that much info on it. I think you might be the first one with a lsd awd trans if you do it. Good luck with the search and project if you do it.

Re: 1st Gen CR-V - Tranny-Questsions
I don't know the transmission code but I have heard on here that the ratios were:
Transfer Case: Just under 2:1
1st: 3.500
2nd: 1.956
3rd: 1.344
4th: 1.071
5th: 0.812
Final Drive: 4.562
Transfer: 0.434
Rear Differential: 2.533
Again, I have not been able to confirm this, as I am just repeating "information" I have gathered. It does help to actually search.
To change the final drive I would assume no but it's hard to say...

'98 CR-V

As you can see the bearings are different sizes as well as the design of how the ring gears are bolted on. Not by any means saying it's not possible, BUT it's deffinently NOT a bolt on affair. As far as a LSD is concerned, the above applies as well. The only possibility I could see would be a "Phantom Grip LSD". I most likely try this out over the winter if I get a chance to get away from work and other projects.
Now I have given you information - I expect the same courtesy if you find anything out.

Re: 1st Gen CR-V - Tranny-Questsions
Hi everybody
I saw a lot of projects about CRX/Civic hatch awd. They took the CRV tranny (B-Series) and the rear diff from the shuttle (D-Series).
Is the rear differential transfer case the same? (shuttle/crv)
How much power will keep it?
Thanks for any help

Re: 1st Gen CR-V - Tranny-Questsions
someone did a LSD on his awd crv tranny... lots of internal mods but the manufacturer of the lsd
did helped him out... minor stuff and add ons if i could remember... but it could be done!
ha posted it before here.. try to use search button and make time to scan through some build
threads.. youll find it!

Re: 1st Gen CR-V - Tranny-Questsions
I have done multiple of these front LSD differentials now. You can even modify the rear differential for a Phantom Grip style LSD. The front differential is NOT the same as a RT4WD diff at all aside from carrier bearing IDs. Quite a bit of machine work is required.
To actually answer the OPs question - no the Civic and CRV differentials both front and rear are completely different. The Civic utilizes a viscous coupling while the CRV uses a pump in the rear differentials TCD unit.

Thank you guys
I see he front diff is much complicated. I have to read and search about it.
The rear diff from crv is not as strong as the rear diff from the civic because it works with a pump. And the claw coupling (ABS) is not very strong too. Crv is 2.533. Is the civic diff 2.533 too? I dont need RT4WD, the crx have to be fulltime awd.
Sorry for my bad english...

Re: 1st Gen CR-V - Tranny-Questsions
I removed the clutch packs and drilled and pushed drill pin stock in and welded solid . It would bind up like crazy lol . Car makes alittle over 500 to the wheels and is crazy fast . Really would love a front and rear LSD though .
