Icon2 Have you run a chipped P06?

So my brother and I have swapped a jdm f22b into his 4th gen. The car was originally a h23 so it has the p14 ecu. After doing some research it was advised to run a p06 from a dx civic and get it chipped and tuned. He ordered one from HAMotorSports yesterday, but I'm a little concerned as neither of us know much about chipping ecus. My biggest concern is that they said in the write up the chip was compatible with hondata s100 software and a couple others. How is that possible? Are chips pretty generic and someone just has to load their programming onto it to tune the car? Or are they brand specific? If you've run a p06 where did you get it from and who tuned it?

Here's the link to the ecu: http://www.hamotorsports.com/socketedp06.html

My ecu was a P06, socketed for S300 and vtec by Xenocron. No issues at all.

Have you heard of a chip being able to handle multiple software types? Like hondata, crome, etc.

Never dealt with chipped ecus, but I assume the socketing is pretty much the same physically. Hondata actually gets soldered in place though, it is a whole board, not a chip.

Oh and if someone is trying to sell you a Hondata s100 or 200, stay away, they are obsolete, and S300 is on version 3 now. Version 1 and 2 are fine, but don't have as many features as much memory for internal datalogging.

So then would it be a good idea to pick up a p06 ship it off then get it tuned.

If you can supply a known good ecu for cheaper than what it costs them to supply it for you, sure.

Mine has no issues, but I don't need a stock knock board either. They can add that if you want it.

Knock board? If you mean for the knock sensor, we don't want it because the f22b doesn't have one. Ideally we would like the car to perform as well and as long as possible as we have put a lot of time and effort into it, as I'm sure many people here understand.

I don't know how much a chipped P06 costs, but I just bought a P39 (OEM computer for the F22B) for $100 including shipping on eBay from a guy in Scotland. I installed it and my F22B is purring like a happy kitten. The engine is a 1993; the ECU is a 1994, and they are playing nice together...

I have an F22B DOHC in min as well, bought it and overlooked it assuming it was an H23 .. there was oil on the engine stamp but I did wonder why there was a holder on the valve cover for what seemed to be throttle cable ..

Anyways, my car runs good but I have Knock Sensor CEL.. haven't had any luck in finding a P39 so suffer from no low end power and bad fuel consumpion.. and a never ending CEL.

I'm curious to hear some more people chime in on what ECU would work on this and how much tuning is required... otherwise the only thing I know to do is jb weld a bolt on the back of the engine and thread in the KS ... which is easier said than done when the engine is in the car.

I should mention also i'll be putting in a set of H23 Cams in spring ... they're supposed to give a performance boost to the F22B but I don't know on what ECU.

If you get in touch with phearable.net and order say an S300 from them they can put a base map on it to run your engine as if it were the stock PCM. From there you can tune it as you please and have the option of swapping any H or F series engine into the car.

A base map is not going to run just like stock, but it will run well enough to get to a tuner and dyno.

The architecture of the 28 pin "chip" that is added to the alternate instruction position of the original OBD-1 ECU can be programmed with instructions compiled from many different tuning platforms... such as Hondata or Crome. Even the factory has used this location in the past to make updates to the stock programming... permanently affixing a chip to the circuit board.

The socketing required is the female type, so that the 28 male pins of the chip can be inserted into the socket. Socketing differs for the Hondata s300 in that the ECU gets male pins soldered to the OBD-1 ECU at the 28 pin location to accept the female daughter board of the s300.

Either way, a simple "chipped" ECU does not provide you with exactly what you need to run the F22 engine in your chassis... it is essentially a good starting point (base map) to get the car to a tuner who can optimize the engine parameters for your particular application.

Bringing this back, would this work without socketing / flash ?

PGMFI.ORG - Grassroots ECU Development - Library . RemoveAKnockSensor

Just to delete the knock board from an ecu such as a P14? I would think so.
