Default Questions on motor swap d17A2

Hello Guys and Gals

So I am new to the site but not new to Honda's for the most part but I have a few questions as I have come into some projects I recently was given a 1996 civic EX Coupe nothing really wrong with this car but some minor body work rust on fenders and so fourth. Then I purchased 2002-2003 civic EX (coupe) for $150 complete car but was hit in the front not real bad but bumper is gone, radiator support is pushed back, Passenger head light is gone but hey I'm thinking motor swap the 2002-2003 has the D17A2 V-Tec and the 96 has the D16 I'm looking to make a daily driver out of the 96 as I prefer the model over the 03 and I'm not looking to invest in the 03 but as parts of course here's my questions Hope I don't sound like a NEWBIE!!! And yes I have Looked on the Intronet but not finding much on a swap like this and trying to turbo it at the same time

1.will I have to pull and re-wire the 96 to hold the D17A2

2.Is the D17 a good motor candidate for Turbo set up(nothing Major 8 to 12Ibs of Boost)

3.I believe the 96 is OBD2 and so is the 02 Correct me if I'm wrong. I have the ECU out of the 03 will I still Need a V-Tec controller for the 96?? or Can I Use the ECU in the 96 for the D17A2??

4.Or should I not Waste my time on the 02-03 and sell off or part out and put all into the 96

Just really wondering if this is worth it time wise and for $$$$ or would I get more out of a B16/B18 swap

thanks for the Help

Can't put that in a 92-00 Civic.

Well for the amount of money to fabricate you may as well put a K20.

Multiple mount locations are completely different. Is it possible? Sure, but you won't find any "off the shelf" mount kits, so you'll have to custom fab something, and for the effort, you'd be better served with a K or B swap.

That was one of my questions is if I could use the ecu in the 96 or do I need to use the one out of the 02/03 but I just want a simple swap I don't want to have to spend a lot of time fabing up motor mounts is it worth the time and $$$

Why are you giving him hope that this is possible? Well I mean, it IS possible. Like I said in my initial post. But it is also possible to swap a Chevy LS2 V8 into his Civic. Does that mean he should spend thousands upon thousands of dollars to fabricate it in there?

Some people who claim to have a "D17" in their EG or EK Civic really have a D16 that is stroked to a 1.7L, hence them calling it a "D17". But it isn't actually a D17A2 from the later generation Civics.

Why is no one else chiming in here?

There really was someone capable of swapping in the d17, his dumbass was too corky to reveal it. He finally posted a YouTube video of the engine code on the block that was the civic like yrs later. Such a dumbass.

FYI it was all posted in d-series.org.

Real question is why is the OP so dead set on this swap, and why can't a normal d, or b, be used instead.

Tony dont think I forgot about this, we still need to LS swap a civic. Gonna be a beast! You get the Porsche trans and adapter kit I'll find a good v8, we can fab it up and have the most understeer civic that has ever existed.

With all due respect, you've been "pus'in out" of every post/thread/discussion you create.

I'm pretty sure he's not referring to me about some LS swap in a civic, I also don't having any plans w/ someone who isn't competent enough to work on on projects he/she can think up but can't follow through.

Back to the OP, its possible but you're not going to find it easy to do. I've also looked into this just for ***** and giggles because I notice the driver side post mount was almost the same. Only problem I see is what about a/c, p/s, and alternator. I forgot where they were put so thats a question you can probably answer.

^^ Not to mention that they are distributor-less. They use individual coil packs. Which means you would NEED to use the D17A2's ECU, or perhaps K-PRO (I haven't looked into this but I bet it would be possible). But you would definitely not able to use a chipped OBD1 ECU.

Basically, as I already said, there are too many technical and physical problems here. You may as well stick to a "normal" D or B swap.

Number one i will say NO! lol. d17 is not a good motor for boost. aftermarket support compared to other motors in non exsistant for the most part. Stock intake mani is garbage and made of plastic. yes you can do a y8 mani swap but its not worth it in the end. ecu you could run a kpro (hondata has d17 support) and alot of fab work to get the motor and trans in. the shifter assembly is is like a k series. these are some of the basic points of issues, im sure their are many more. im all for different but swap something else in and save some money and go buy beer.
