P1399, P0300-P0304 Codes / Rough Idle / Car Sounds Like a Subaru!
Hey everyone, I'm currently having some trouble with my car (b18b1 with 144k miles), at idle, it is throwing code P1399. When it is idling I hear a ticking sound and it is pretty rough at idling. Also when accelerating, the car sounds like a Subaru with UEL's so it makes me wonder if some of my cylinders are not firing correctly?
Some background information, a few months back I was getting P0300-P0304 so misfires on the 4 cylinders though more often on 2 and 4 so I changed the Distributor cap and rotor although that didn't help much. recently I had added some Chevron Fuel System Cleaner which is when my car started to idle rough to the point where it seems like it wants to stall at lights sometimes. Upon inspecting my spark plugs there seemed to be some oil in cylinder 4 so I decided to change the valve cover gasket though still no help. I checked the resistance of my spark plug wires and they were 14kOhm, 12kOhm, 10kOhm, 8kOhm, from cylinders 1-4 respectively. Earlier today I adjusted the valves and none of them were off by very much, exhaust ports all slightly seemed a bit tighter but not by much.
Any help and suggestions would be very appreciated! Thank you very much in advanced!

I agree on doing the compression test. I had a similar thing happen to me a few years ago. Almost the exact same symptoms as your motor is showing. Ended up pulling the head off and the sides of the top of the piston had chunks missing from detonation. I would suggest pulling the head off and taking a look. Most likely you are in for a bottom end rebuild. Hopefully head and cylinder walls are still good. Good luck.

Thank you so much for all your help so far everyone! I ended up borrowing a compression checker at autozone today and here are my results:
cylinder 1 158
cylinder 2 146
cylinder 3 151
cylinder 4 0
so far from what I have read everywhere it should be either the piston or valves. Are there any next tests I should try before pulling the head to diagnose any further?

it will be the valves, just replace them all I had a civic that hada dead cylinder all it took was the valves.

Lol....although it's very likely a valve, your reasoning is not too great.
OP...follow this up with a wet test. Pour a capful (CAP from the oil quart...not cup) of oil into the cylinder. Test again. If compression significantly rises, you found leaky rings. Not to say valves couldn't be leaking also. Or a hole in the piston. Or a cracked head. Or a bad headgasket, etc.
A leakdown test can pinpoint the source of the compression leak, however.
Just a heads up...B18B's are like $600-800 shipped from a JDM retailer. Jdmenginescorp.com sold me a super crazy clean one a while back.

I finally got around to getting my hands on an air compressor and a leak down tester and my results were:
Cylinder 1: 35% leakage - I could hear air very near where the air was being input and I could SLIGHTLY feel some air coming out of cylinder 2's spark plug hole
Cylinder 2: 35% leakage - I could hear air coming out of spark plug 4's hole
Cylinder 3: 25% leakage - I could hear air only near its own plug
Cylinder 4: 80% leakage - I could hear air out of spark plug holes 1 and 3
From these tests, does it mean that the head gasket is bad? I tried to see if there was any air coming out of the IM, Exhaust, and Radiator but didn't hear anything come out of them I think I will test them all again tomorrow just to be sure. Can anyone give me their input on this situation? Thank you all very much again for your help!

Could be a bad head gasket if you put everything to TDC as it should have been. The weird thing is that you didn't mention losing any coolant or oil?
Again...B18B's are $600-800ish.
