Default Expected life for 2007 Fit?

I've got 180k on our 07 fit base (AT). I've posted before, but fuel economy dropped about 30%, then we had cylinder mis-fires a few weeks back. New coilpacks resolved the issue, in that process I checked compression and found one to be low (took two runs, 80 the first and 130 the second, others were 155, 165, and 170). I've stayed on top of the maintenance, valves were adjusted a little late, but were not really too far out of specs from what I could tell.

I'm tempted to pull the manifold and clean up the valves (not burning oil, so I expect that's the cause of the low compression), but I'm not entirely sure it's worth the time and money...

How long has your car lasted?? I feel a Honda should last longer then this.

Hey, kwb, sorry to hear about your low performance problems. You were part of the JDM center console group buy that I rescued years ago on Fitfreak and we exchanged some PM's on that issue. I agree that your Fit should not be expected to have these symptoms at your claimed mileage, and they sound like a '56 Chevy needing a valve job at the same mileage (that WOULD be expected from old Detroit iron, post lead removal from gasoline).

BTW, you are one of the few Fitfreaks that I miss. Merry Christmas!

Dave

Please post to let us know how you get the compression loss resolved. New valve and seat would be the obvious answer, but why would that be necessary on only one cylinder?

im right at 180k on my 07 manual......still on a factory clutch and i've beat the car harder than a Fit deserves to be every day since it was brand new.

i've done 3/4 coil packs, 4 sets of rotors, 4 sets of pads, oil a few times, and that's really it...........never changed coolant, trans fluid, clutch, adjusted valves, NOTHING.

i'm about to do some maintenance to it now, though, since i'm selling my CTS-V and the Fit will get DD status again

(i have a k20z3 harness and ecu....gathering other parts)

Please let us know how one "adjusts" their timing chain on a Fit.

84k on my 2007 Sport MT. I bring it in for routine maintenance, and aside from normal wear & tear the only repairs were last year replacing the timing belt and front sway bar end links (I tend to take corners rather aggressively). The car has been pretty much trouble free, though the engine seems a bit noisier. I still get pretty close to the advertised 33/38 MPG when I make an effort to drive with fuel economy in mind.

If you bought it used, that could explain why it has that many problems

The fit has a timing chain.... We have a few customers in the shop that have well over 200k on their fits with routine maintenance only.

Yea we knew that but he said he "adjusted" it and that isn't happening.

I had the OP's problem (bad compression) and it was indeed bent/not properly seating valves, and as best as I can tell, linked to being too late on the valve clearance adjustment. The car basically went 155k miles for the last owner without a valve adjustment until it barely ran, and then the valve adjustment fixed most of the problem, but it still had the low compression and threw a CEL and idled rough. Still felt fine at higher rpm, though. Apparently the richer mixture/faster compression at higher RPM can be enough to ignite in the cylinder even with the pressure loss at the valves, but at idle the compression loss causes misfires. It was going to be like $1650 for the valve job at the dealership, but swapping in a low milage engine ended up only being about $150 more, so I did that. Fortunately used engines for the Fit are really cheap and it's a 9 hour job at the dealer. I think the valves are a 10.5 hour job plus machining plus the valves. If I had gone with a cheaper engine (lowest I saw was a 131k engine for $290) that actually would have made the swap cheaper than just doing the valves.
