Gosh... it hurts!!
When it gets you, it gets you good eh? Some turd left these deep marks on my door.
I can't get the doors redone. Is there any way for masking these marks or making them less visible? They're pretty deep; cutting right through the paint.

Full insurance coverage?
^^Unfortunately not. Otherwise I would have taken FULL advantage of it!
What else can I do? I can't have the doors painted like I said. What about a little buff with rub-in polish? Will that at least make it less hideous?

You can try to buff them but if they are too deep it wont work. You can repaint only the doors but they will have to do a blend. It is technically better to repaint the whole car.

I took it to two different "experts" and they both said buffing is pointless. Scratches are too deep and prominent as you can tell from the pics.
They're going to paint the entire side, which will actually resolve some issues as well - it's starting to collect rust around the edges of the doors on both sides, since it's a 2005 model purchased in late 2004.
Honda's asking for $103 for each side so that's $206 in total. Is that reasonable?
^^ As in $103 for the entire left/right side.

Only the doors need to be painted... It is not better to paint the whole car. Giving stupid advice like that isnt wanted on this forum. Only reason to repaint the whole car over painting and blending the doors would be using shitty product. I use Deltron paint mixed off the bank, and usally am point on when matching.
You can try buffing, but I think the scratches have gone through the clear... Try and do it by hand over a machine. I persoanlly like Meguiar's Products, if you get the diamond cut, just use a towl and rub it by hand. Make sure to wax when done.
I dont know what they told you but.. that sounds alittle to low.. My base and clear is more exspensive then that.

Re: Gosh... it hurts!!
I will not be repainting the whole car, that makes no sense to me at all.
Now, as far as the sides are concerned, if I do decide to get the doors, naturally they're going to blend in the front and rear fender as well.
About the only thing I can do is live with it for now. Mechanically, she's pristine! :D

I tell you if honda is willing to fix it for that price I would if I was you. I personally would charge more. But yeah the paint should be blended fastest way. A overall is pointless if the car don't need the paintjob

Re: Gosh... it hurts!!
That's a ridiculously low price, where do you live? It'd be cheaper to ship my car halfway around the world and have your Honda dealer paint it rather than pay someone here to do it lol.
Sorry to hear some dickwad scratched your car, that sucks. Get a security camera and catch the person next time! For Great Justice!

Yeah, this place is full of **** bags just waiting for someone to park a clean and shiny-lookin' car and then before you know it, it starts to get dings, scuffs and scratches all over.
Err... what should I do with the security cam? Take it everywhere with me and duct tape it to the car when I park it!?

You got my attention. They must be pricey though. Can you erm.. provide a link perhaps?
Thanks!

^^ Really wish I could go all Expendables on these punks. Sad bunch of a-holes. Must make them miserable to see a well maintained car I suppose.

no one wants to hear the truth
Re: Gosh... it hurts!!
The reason I said this is based on cost. The cost of painting one side of the car is probably a few hundred off the price of painting the entire car. No need to though, but still needs paint for the deep gouges.

Re: Gosh... it hurts!!
I haven't tried the wet sanding approach yet. Took it to two really good dealers, but you know how they are when it comes to sucking your wallet dry; they say they'll only repaint the entire side, nothing else.
Cetcivic, can I get away with just painting over the scratches, wet sanding it, then leveling with compound and polish? I have yet to find a reliable shop/dealer who can do that.
And I don't think I should attempt this myself. On another forum, a member recommended getting the paint, applying with a superfine paintbrush, wetsanding it with a high grit paper, then compound, level, polish and wax.
I want to get this done soon at the least possible cost. Your feedback has been incredibly helpful so far, thanks!
Hoping to get some more.
