Default 2008 Accord Moonroof Issue

My moonroof started working intermittently. I hear the click but it doesn't always work. Sometimes it does, but will be stuck much of the time. I've read every blog I can and have not found a solution. I've tried resetting the controls per the manual. I've lubricated the tracks. I checked the fuse. The older model Accords apparently had relays for the moonroof but 2008-present don't, from what I've read and researched. I've looked under the dash and even pulled the headliner. If replacing the motor is the only option so be it, but it's like $200. Anyone out there have any other ideas or resolved this issue themselves?

Make sure it's the motor first. You can check for power at the harness side of the motor connector or take your cordless drill battery and use a couple of jumper wires directly to the motor.

If it is the motor they're running $50-100 here (nationwide salvage listings) http://www.car-part.com/ There's also a couple on eBay for around $50.

The motor is getting power. I pulled it out but left it connected to the harness. The gear would turn sometimes, in both directions, but sometimes it would just click and not move, even after pressing the switch several times. The only relay I was able to locate is soldered into the circuit board inside the motor control unit. I think Honda eliminated the external relays found in previous models under the dash. I was able to find a motor on car-part.com and for less than $50, worth replacing. Thanks for the tip. I'll repost after I replace it. I was also able to get a replacement relay from a knockoff vendor in China and I'll solder that to my current defective unit just to see if that was the root cause.

I have not dealt with the 08-12 accord moo roofs but there used to be two relays up in the headliner for the moonroof which from time to time would go bad causing this condition

Thanks for the tip. I tried it and it stills is inconsistent. Gonna try to put a new relay on the circuit board next. Waiting for it to arrive from China since it's proprietary to Honda through Ormtron, and they don't sell them. Figures
