R18 swap instead of K20?

Re: (Blue-Civic-Hybrid)
I'm intruiged by the r18 in a fit idea. Over time I can see the cost of these engines coming down enough for it to be a viable swap. I really like the idea of the theoretical gas mileage that a fit would get with an R18 swap, it should by all means get better gas mileage than a stock 06+ civic which gets about 26/34... It would be cool to have a swap out there that made the Fit fun to drive and get you substantialy better gas mileage. I also got a chance to look at an R18 on a stand yesterday, and I'm very impressed with the design of the block, sporting a full perimeter girdle just like an f20c, and also pretty decent size/shape intake ports. I speculate that in the next couple years we'll see boosted r18's in the 300hp range on stock internals

Re: R18 swap instead of K20?
I did a B18C1 swap in my 97 civic HX coupe and loved the way it drove. It was probably the best auto experience of my driving career. Only did it because of need, as my CVT tranny was done and I needed a drivetrain. I now have an 07 fit and am nearing the time I should think about a swap here as well. I have 112k on the motor and don't expect to get much past 200k before it starts blowing black smoke out the tailpipe in serious quantity.
Given my current problems with the coil packs on the L15A I'd really like to try a swap upgrade to the R18 now that the platform has had a chance to populate the US market.
Unless it's never been done.

tell me about it....would be sweet if the base came with the fit motor and the sport came with the civic motor....i wouldnt even mind paying another g on top or something like that just for it
as opposed to the swap....money wise if your calling it a budget swap.....it will be almost the same cost

If you're dead set on swapping the fit but want to keep it cheap, consider the K20a3. It's still very underpowered but long blocks can be had as cheap as $500 if you find an ep3 owner who's swapping their car. If you do your own labor, you can have a very cheap mostly bolt in swap using hasport mounts and such. With a few bolts ons, you can make an easy 160whp, which should be very fun for a fit.
The K20 swap for the fit has already been done and all of the parts are readily available. The only good point for the R18 (unless it somehow magically drops right in) is the cost but by using an a3, you can probably get the whole engine cheaper than a R18 anyways since these motors are fairly new. It'll save you alot of hassle and you'll still make more power than a R18. Plus aftermarket support for even the A3 is better than a R18.

Re: R18 swap instead of K20?
I have always known if your doing a swap you do it the right way with no rigging no any kinda crap like that.....a3? a3? why why would you want the 02 si motor you want the 06 + si motor.... and 400....pal thats for the just the long block....every little things adds up, tranny unless you want to cheap yourself out get a 5 spd tranny as oppose to getting the 6spd...but i dont know who would
and like you said not everyone pays retail for everything.....cool i didnt know people have k swap commodities for a discount.... i mean if 10k is cheap to you why are you in a honda forum.....

I personally wouldn't swap an A3 in but you said there is no such thing as a cheap K swap so I offered an example.
You are obviously very poor at building good relationships with people so you would have no way of knowing that you can get things like mounts and axles at discounted prices.
Chill out.

Re: R18 swap instead of K20?
if the r18 fits no cutting then it's a win... you can't cut frame rails and maintain crash protection... 140hp NA is better than 140hp FI esp if it's with a supercharger. any SC will always cause drag on the engine and that hurts fuel econ. If things would work out on fitment and cost I think giving the car the pep it should have had from the factory and still maintain good fuel economy the R18, striking all other potential problems could be a good fit.

Re: R18 swap instead of K20?
does someone knows if a R18A or R20A can be bolted in place of the LEA onto the IMA motot of a CR-Z ??
"single cam" is the way to go if you wish to keep weight down and a low center of gravity.
DOHC adds weight, as do any kind of turbine.

Re: R18 swap instead of K20?
that would be better to remove 150lbs, going with a good turbo SOHC D16
this will make the car much better at braking and cornering (winning over a much more powerful car)
