D16z6 or d15b vtec
Which would be the better engine to switch into my car. I have a 95 civic dx coupe with a d15b7. I think they will both fit straight in without any mount changes. I was looking on wiki and they both have almost the same spec, but what are something's good about each of them?

Z6 parts are more common and easier to get. D15B's are usually lower mileage (if you believe the importers).
If you torch the crank on a D15B you have a paperweight because the cranks are specific to those motors. Pistons and rods are also specific to them IIRC. The pistons have a shorter compression height to compensate for the longer rods which compensate for a shorter stroke.
There's tons and tons of information out there for your question so I'm not going to spend a lot of time typing up a list of pros and cons. But if it were me I would go D16Z6 all day long.

Same power, same torque, same OBD variation. They're both D's, so aftermarket parts, mounts, transmissions, axles, and all that other fun **** that bolts to the outside of the motor are the same. That said, here's the breakdown:
D15B VTEC - higher cost (imported engine/ECU)
D16Z6 - lower cost, readily available USDM engine and ECU
Point, D16Z6
D15B VTEC - no guarantee on miles (that 45k bullshit is a scam)
D16Z6 - possible to buy one privately/locally with known, verifiable miles
Point, D16Z6
D15B VTEC - non-USDM motor, can't order some parts directly, have to get them imported or buy non-OEM.
D16Z6 - USDM motor, parts readily and easily available from multiple sources, including the dealership for mission-critical parts.
Point, D16Z6
D15B VTEC - Single oil channel for the crank and main bearings
D16Z6 - dual oil channels for crank and mains, less likely to spin bearings at high RPM
Point, D16Z6
D15B - Mad tyte JDM y0!
D16Z6 - available all over the world. Everyone knows about the motor, specs are readily available no matter where you look.
Point, D16Z6
Tally:
D15B VTEC - 0
D16Z6 - 5

Re: D16z6 or d15b vtec
If you're looking for VTAK YO! Then Z6 is the way to go. I'm getting a Y8 car today and I am greatly anticipating the death of the motor. However, B7s are interesting as well. There's a setup I came across to where you put a Z6 intake manifold on, LS throttle body and use an A6 cam along with an S40 transmission and it can generate some torque. You can also throw a Y7 head on the B7 and get some awesome compression ratios.

Re: D16z6 or d15b vtec
Not really. The p06 should do fine for both setups. The only thing that would have to change really is if you did the Y7 head on a B7. You have to watch which injectors you're using. Don't quote me, but I'm trying to remember. I think the Y7 injectors are 180cc and the B7 injectors are the normal 240cc. So if you used Y7 injectors, you'll have to use the P2E ECU (which would be dumb). So just put the B7 injectors in and you're set. Only time an after market ECU should be needed is if you're doing really high compression or boost so you can adjust the timing/fuel as need be.

Um I think we may have the same engine and I have a cold air intake k&n filter, different headers. And I think that's about it.

If you want your car to run right, your computer or the software on your computer needs to match your engine unless your modifying the engine, in which case you need tuned. Period.

Just for now I'm probably just gonna do a auto to manual swap. Cause I hate auto now.
