EVAP EMISSIONS (P1457) check engine light? (99' civic Si)

Re: EVAP EMISSIONS (P1457) check engine light? (99' civic Si)
Everyone else is jumping in, I might as well too
I have a 98 honda civic lx. For at least a year now, I've been throwing a P1457 code....I've run through the service manual troubleshooting flowchart twice, carefully working each step, to ensure it was done correctly. Was able to work up to where the EVAP two way valve must be checked, with BOTH a vaccuum pump guage AND a vaccuum pressure gauge; the pump gauge I have, but I have NO idea where to find the pressure gauge.
What I didn't check is the EVAP bypass solenoid valve...I think once I got to the test that needed this pressure gauge (the image is some box monstrosity that I can't even imagine where to find...) I got discouraged, and gave up. I'm human.
I will also check the C115 connector as mentioned in tegger.com's TSB (from a similar thread, RonJ@HT has the link in his signature).
I have another problem, which I still swear (with all my tech experience) that is connected. For at least 6 months now, I've had a problem with my civic not starting, or even worse, stalling out while driving. I've posted this before, and suggestions were to test the ignition system. Replace plugs, wires, cap rotor, even the ignition coil (which did show high resistance in the primary windings). Still had intermitten problems starting.
I hit a deer two weeks ago, crushing the front end. The body shop, when they wanted to move the car, couldnt start it (hmmm...) In addition to fixing the damage, the threw in a new distributor, with the idea that should fix it. That day, twice didnt want to start, and stalled twice on me. Once while in traffic
How can I test the ECU? Is there a way? If thats what it takes to get this car fixed, I'll do it, but I'm tired of replacing parts that don't fix the problem (yea i know..)
Any and all help appreciated....thanx folks...

i had the same problem with that recently . you can have the EVAP system do a leak test. they put smoke in the tubes and see where its leaking. Theyll trace the source and that will tell you if that valve is busted.
