Alright dudes. I don't wanna let this thread die. Now is prime time to go camping/backpacking.

I'm in the market for a sleeping bag and a good 1-2 person tent..

Any recommendations?

Marmot makes excellent sleeping bags and tents. Better than TNF from what I understand.

can we talk about hiking/trailing/backpacking here? Equipment and skills for backpackers are a lot different than standard camp equipment.

Less is more. I'd invest in a quality digital scale. I use a Feedback Sports Alpine Digital Scale.
Click the image to open in full size.
I originally got it to weight bicycle parts but I've used it for backpacking gear and firearms accessories as well. Comes in handy. It was $62@REI.

I carry the scale in my car and if I stop by a buddies house and he picked up a new piece of kit, I'll go grab the scale and weight it to see if there's any savings compared to what I own. Currently I don't own much but still. I keep a running tally of weighed items and I buy most of my stuff that places where there's a solid return/exchange policy.

I watched a National Geographic documentary called the Appalachian Trail. I'm sure you've heard of the trail. One of the surprising things that I've learned was when they showed a small shop in the middle of trail that caters to hikers, they said that most people that stop in, drop a ton of gear that they don't need and have shipped back home. And they shipped back a lot of stuff.

People tend to overpack for the unexpected and kick themselves in the *** for muling around extra ounces for hundreds of miles.

BTW, I dropped literally 2 gallons of body weight in the past 2.5 months w00t!

Lets bring this back from the dead as it's now camping season again.

I just wanted to check in to see if anyone has used this tent:

The North Face Phoenix 2 or 3.

They dont use a Nylon canopy. Its has one skin and that's it. Totally waterproof, windproof and breathable. Sounds like a f'in awesome tent and they are super light (Phoenix 2 is 3 lbs 10 oz and 3 is 4 lb 13.3 oz) so good for backpacking long trips which I love.

Here's a pic: Click the image to open in full size.

Other than that any good recent camping stories¿ Any good gear reviews? I can't wait to get out there and get eatin alive by the wood ticks and mosquitoes

Sometimes you have to wait a week or so to get it, but definitely the best prices online!
