i am putting konis with gc top hat on my car today. when i put the top hats on the front shock i could only get one of the nuts on when there is supposed to be two to them the top hat will not go any further down. it seems that the top hat bushing is stoping the top hat short because there is a peice of metal welded to the shock. does any one have a picture of the top of there shocks with the top hats on so i can see what it looks like. any help would be good

make sure the bushings and the shaft tube are pressed all the way in. when i had that setup i had to switch the tubes out (they shipped them with the non-koni tubes) and pressing the tubes into the bushings was a pain in the ***.

now when this is happening, are the coilovers in the car or in your hands while assembling? maybe you should lower the springs and perches.

yea i called ground control and wow the best customer service i have every seen. they told me to email them some pictures and i did and he called and just told me you have to push the sleeve thru the top hat from the bottom bushing and then tighten it up and it will push it all together and after doing that it works thanks

you can use $5 off road rancho boots with zip ties should you choose to install dust covers. you just trim a bit to fit

found this old thread after searching for hopefully an answer to my question....
i am currently putting together my koni/Ground Control coil over kit and ground control extended top hats on the front suspension. is the OP referring to the little cylindrical sleeve that is supplied with the koni's from the factory that slides over the threads of the shock piston and rests on the welded on "stopper" just under the threads? what i'm trying to figure out is do i need to use that little sleeve with the Ground Control top hats or is that only if i was going to be using the stock top hats? thanks |

Basically, if the shaft fits, you don't. If it doesn't fit, you do. And before someone else writes it, "that's what she said!". |
