Default Eg b20b starter problems

Recently my starter went and I was told all b series starters are interchangeable so i bought a b16 starter for a b20 with a y80 tranny the starter I took out was bigger than the b16 starter but still bolts up but the car doesn't crank over I can hear the starter motor start and then just stops I know the starter is good because is been tested any ideas? Any help is appreciated

My battery voltage was at 11.7 so I figured it was okay I didn't have an engine ground so I put one in then I try starting it this time it made a dead battery sound push started let it run turn it off went to start it and it turn on put a multimeter on my battery went from 13.9 volts then sputters while voltage goes down to 11 so I'm thinking alternator?

Battery voltage should be ~12.5V, so I think your battery is bad or low on charge.

Yes it was low on charge but I went to where I bought it they charged it tested it and it passed it holds a voltage but the alternator is not charging it enough but the alternator is good also took it out and tested it so my question is what would cause the battery to not recharge when both the battery and alternator are good?
