Hello,

I am having some trouble with the cruise control in my 2003 Civic Si. All of the indicator lights work on the dash. When I activate the cruise control button that is on the left of the steering wheel, I am able to activate the cruise control button on the steering wheel and the light on the dash illuminates as if the cruise control is indeed engaged. However, after letting off the gas pedal, it is immediately apparent that the cruise control has definitely not engaged, as the car decelerates.

Helpful details:

The horn works, the headlights work fine, all indicator lights work as if nothing is wrong.

I hope someone can help me I am planning a road trip to California, from Colorado, this summer for a wedding, and it would really suck to have to drive the whole way without the help of cruise control!

ummm when activate it by pressing on the steering wheel make sure you press the SET button when youre on the desired speed, its one the bottom one

Check the Cable that goes to the Throttle Body. If you beat on the car, or make a couple fast pulls then the cable can come loose off of the place it needs to be on the Throttle Body. Mine did it and its about a 10 minute fix.

Mad scientist what he was trying to do is called troubleshooting... you know when you eliminate all possibilities one by one? You should know about that you use it on a day to day basis at the lab right?

By reading your first post I just want to state the obvious that you never mentioned you set your speed correctly...


Have you checked the fuse under the steering column?

Asking if I properly know how to use cruise control? To me, it sounds like the person is being a smart ***! Of course I know how to work the SET button. I did mention all of the obvious in my first post. I ensured all buttons necessary for cruise control to engage were operational.

Here is my theory... It could be one of the following...

-Loose hose
-Bad fuse(s)
-Stuck/broken Clutch Actuator (I know the brake actuator is operational because the light on the dash turns off once the brake pedal is tapped)

Any other theories out there/helpful comments?

Seeing as you mentioned that I am an educated individual and not a complete idiot, lets assume I have tried the obvious... I have done tons of reading... but there are so many things that could go wrong... All lights/buttons are operational, so it makes me believe that it probably isn't a fuse...

I will put a few theories to the test and will keep you guys updated.

I don't know much about EP3 cruise systems but if it is vacuum actuated (like many are) you can grab a vacuum gauge and find out if you have a leak. Those are about 25 bucks at an auto parts store.

Also maybe just grab a clutch switch from Honda, I doubt it is more than $30 bucks?

So I tested the clutch switch yesterday and it is in working order. Still need to pop the hood and have a look at the hose! The vacuum gauge is a great idea! Thanks!
