Default Humming noise.

I have an '02 Honda civic ex and for about a year now it has been making a weird humming noise. I have had the belts, steering fluid pump, water pump, and the tension pulley replaced but it still makes the noise. Does anybody have any idea what might be causing the problem?

I had a loud humming noise that started about 40 MPH. After lots of questions, I determined it was the right front bearing, which I replaced last weekend.

Is it speed consistent or consistent with engine speed?

Actually the noise can only be heard when the car is not moving. As soon as i turn it on it starts making the noise. I just got brand new tires last week and it still makes the noise. If i rev the engine the sound of the engine the noise doesn't get louder but im sure its still there.

I have also already replaced the bearings a while back. The noise actually started about a week after.

When does your civic make the noise? I also have an '02 civic with about 92,000 miles and a manuel trans. When I turn the car on and leave it in Neutral I have a loud humming sound, when I push the clutch in it goes away. I also have a loud humming sound when driving in first gear. Its like a whinning sound similar to that of a car with a super charger in it.

I have been told by my mechanic that it is a "throw-out bearing" and it needs to be replaced. He said at 92k I might as well replace the clutch with it.

What side of the engine- by the belts or the tranny side?

Could be a bad bearing in the alternator or compressor on the belt side. There's nothing on the tranny side except the tranny.

edit: If it's coming from the top of the engine you may have something bad in the head.

The noise is coming from where the alternator is. It sounds like its coming from just below it. The car has 200k and i replaced the clutch with a new one about 2 years ago. The noise isn't as loud when the car has warmed up a bit.

^^ Yeah, deflection on the belts should be 1/8 inch. Sounds like it could be the alt or the compressor.
