NGK Laser Platinum vs Iridium IX
For 98 Accord v6, which would you recommend? Laser platinum is the OE recommendation, but most people recommend Iridium IX's. And I've also read some people say Iridium's are worthless, they increase idle and don't do anyting. I know spark plugs dont boost performance, I'm trying to keep the car stock, just need to know which is the better choice in terms of money vs quality.

Re: NGK Laser Platinum vs Iridium IX
The Laser Platinum's will last a little longer than the Iridium IX, but the Iridium IX is still a fairly long lasting plug and in theory will deliver slightly better performance. I'd go Iridium IX's personally.

Re: NGK Laser Platinum vs Iridium IX
really? you think platinum plugs would last longer, all else equal? i'd never guess that - alot of OE turbo cars are going to iridium for (purportedly) the opposite reason.

oh yeah and they were part of an emissions system recall on alot of hondas back in 2000. it wasn the plugs necessarily but honda had us replace them anyway with plug wires dist. cap and rotor

I personally chose Iridium IX over Laser Plat because I was under the impression that it would last longer.....
I'm fairly sure the difference between the two will be insignificant

i use the iridiums, i know everyone says it doesnt make a difference but my car had noticeably better throttle response after putting in the new plugs. i was pretty impressed

Personally I'd save the money and buy the Iridium IX if you are looking for long life..
Alternatively you will get probably the same performance from the G-Power, but at about 33% the cost.. Just wont last as long.. Your call

It could also be that he replaced worn plugs with new ones, which would always lead to a better response...
Iridium and platinum are not really meant for more power, if you happen to gain a horsepower is incidental due to concentration of spark, but generally, they are meant to outlast other plugs (with the exception of the very very fine tip Denso which was built for "power" and they tell you will not give long life)

I'm using G-Power, I've used Iridium IX's, and i can't tell the difference. Track times are the same. Using Premium 91 Octane. H22a.
I've got NGK G-Power's in my Civic & Accord. Much Cheaper. Great Product. Long Lasting. It's not a huge amount for plugs, but 30% less than iridium's.

I've been running the Iridium IX with no problem whatsoever. Tip of the plugs still look good from April '09 when I did my H22 swap til this day.

30% less than iridium? Im sure its A LOT less.. G power for my car is about $3 a pop.. Iridium is $7.. That puts it at about 42% the cost of the iridium.. It will last quite a while as well, just not as much as the Iridium IX..
I would decide like this.. If you change the plugs yourself, go with the G-power.
If you pay someone to change it, put in the iridium so you know it wont have to be changed for quite some time (assuming all your seals etc are good)

This could also be that your last plugs were done....Noticeable as doing stock replacement?

Re: NGK Laser Platinum vs Iridium IX
only the tip is iridium the base is nickel or some junk metal, the oem stock "double platinum" means the tip and base is platinum, that is the reason why platinum has longer life
