Default 2010 Accord Oil Life Indicator

This 2010 Accord is my first Honda. It has an oil life indicator telling you what percentage is left. Does anyone know how this percentage is estimated by the computer? From what does it take its data?

I changed the oil last week and had to manually reset the indicator, which left me to ponder whether it was merely using the odometer data.

Thanks.

It's just a calculator. It only serve as a reminder, so many owners forget about car maintenance. The fact that you are here, you are not one of them.

It calculate distance, time, and other factors such as throttle position, engine speed, operating temp, and did I forget anything else (?)

Hmm... . I guess that might be a little better than a set mileage on the odometer. From the day of purchase, till last week, it indicated 5% left at 7100 miles. I don't normally allow my oil to accumulate that much mileage, but the engine was breaking in on this oil cycle.

What's a good change % pt. when using the Honda factory oil? The dealership told me its a mix of regular and synthetic oils.

IMO, break in or not, I would not go lower than 15%. And I always use 100% Dino oil. I don't see a need for synthetic.
