Oil leak - distributor O-ring or VTEC solenoid?

Oil leak - distributor O-ring or VTEC solenoid?
My gf's sister has a '97 civic EX (D16Y8), which I'm pretty sure is a non v-tech... but anyway. It has an oil leak on the pass. side of the engine, which I at first thought was a leaking headgasket, but after doing some reading, I found that typically if the HG goes, there is coolant and oil mixing/coolant leaking before oil etc... so I did a compression check, and all 4 cyl. hit about 150psi -+ 10.
Here's a pic of the area I'm talking about, noting that the leaked oil is in fact under the coolant hose, and runs down the transmission right at the corner of the head, non on the hose:
I've read that the o-ring in the distributor is a common cause for leakage there, and so is the v-tech solenoid. As mentioned before, I'm pretty sure this is a non-vtech, so that leaves HG or dizzy o-ring.
Today, I used some de-greaser on it, and cleaned it off (shows in pic) and drove the **** out of it for about 10 miles. No leak, so it's something that takes a bit to actually show up.
Any ideas or advice before I start taking things apart?

Re: Hey guys, help a newb please?
I don't see the car too often, as my gf's sister goes to college an hour and a half away, so I have a hard time pinpointing where the leak is, or following it. I've now cleaned it twice, and asked her to bring it back in a couple days, so I can see where the oil is coming from before it spreads out over the top of that part of the trans.
And as far as I can tell it stops at the head, but goes under the dizzy a bit. The dizzy itself looks dry though.

my d16z6 leaked on the internal seal on the dizzy. the o ring was fine, but the seal that was on the inside of the dizzy on the shaft went bad and dripped oil in the same location.

U can see the Vtec Solenoind on the pic on top of the head lol. Anyways it might be ur dizzy O ring they do go out even tho u check it and seems fine just change it to be safe its not that expensive.

As far as your problem it sounds like the dizzy oil seal, or possibly the valve cover gasket is leaking there. If the VTEC Solenoid was leaking it normally leaks down the back of the engine, under the solenoid, and onto the tranny.

Notice that the VTEC solenoid is at the back of the motor, yet the oil leak is at the front. Based on the picture, I'd say it's the distributor o-ring. Your best bet is to replace the o-ring (it's cheap), clean the leak area and check back.

Thanks for the help guys, next time I see her car, I'll replace the o-ring, see if that cures the problem.

Re: Oil leak - distributor O-ring or VTEC solenoid?
I am running the same situation on a d16z6. The oil was leaking a few drips on the trans and was rolling forward toward the stamp area on the block as circled in your pic. I had wiped the bottom of the distributor and ran the car for awhile and then took another cloth and wiped it again and found the leak coming from the inside of the dizzy. Or check the vtec solenoid for leaks. Cause the solenoid has 2 areas where the gasket can leak. The side and the top.
