The civic came in many flavors (EX,DX,LX,SI,VX,HX)(coupe, hatchback and sedan) EX is just a model in the civic family. Welcome to H-T and the search function is your friend.

You have a civic. The EX is just a trim.

Another thing, you don't see many people racing EX's because they're heavy. More options = more weight. Most people race hatchbacks and the other base models.

Welcome to HT, in a few years you can come back and laugh at this thread

I have an EX, and its built. Its only about ~200LB's heavier, but is definitely worth the difference, to have the features.

There is no forum specifially for the EX or any other trim level.

EG, EK, etc are NOT trim levels. They are chassis codes. They are not the same as thing as the name "EX".

CHASSIS CODES

EG, EK, etc are all supposed to be a part of the chassis code, which can be found in the VIN of your car. Yours is an EJ8. If you look at your VIN this is the fourth, fifth and sixth digits.

EG is used to refer to a '92-'95 Civic. In actuality EGs are only certain body and engine combinations, and not all 5th generation ('92-'95) Civics.

EK is used to refer to a '96-'00 Civic. In actuality EGs are only certain body and engine combinations, and not all 6th generation ('96-'00) Civics. There weren't ever real EK chassis cars sold in the US (only EJ, EM and EN for this generation).

You can find more information about chassis codes on this site. There is a thread listing them in Tech/Misc.

TRIM LEVELS

EX is a trim level. Other trim levels include CX, DX, GX, LX, Si, SE, VP, DX-V and VX.

An EX (in the US) for '96-'00 is a coupe or sedan with a 1.6L SOHC VTEC engine (D16Y8).

There is a thread that goes over the differences of trim levels in this section too.

So your EX is also called an "EK" by some people but it's actually an EJ8.

Hope that helps explain things.

I figured he mixed up EX as being a chassis code like EG or EK. I've seen it happen before.
