Default DIY rear axle CV cup swap

i was getting rear vibration during hard cornering while on throttle at the track last week. i did some research and found out that the rear CV was pitted, most commonly on the driver side. so swapping CV cup from passenger side to driver will provide a new surface and fix the problem, until it wears out again.

you can remove the whole axle from the hub but i don't think it's necessary but might make it easier if you want to completely clean out all the old grease.

here are some pics.

removing the lower control arm ball joint.

removing the boot clamp to be reused later.

CV cup is out.

you can see the lighter grease in the passenger cup and the darker grease from the driver cup on the paper.

you can see the pit in the CV cup. this was the worse one. the others weren't as bad.

Mobil synthetic extreme pressure grease.

all back together.

Can't see the pictures but a good write up. I had to do this a while back and it was a huge pain in the ass. If i has to do it again i qould prob remove the axles, because if not you pretty much need to remove the rear end

not sure why you would have to pretty much remove the rear end. you can see from the pics that there are plenty of room to work. at first i though i might have to remove the exhaust to get the passenger side CV cup out but i was able to maneuver it around and get it out.

if you remove the lower control arm ball joint, then you can push the hub out far enough to pull the inner CV out from the rear diff. then you just remove the boot clamp and pull the cup out. it took less than 2 hours, could probably have done it in 1 hours if i was in a rush. i'm just saying that this is not as big of a job as some others make it out to be.
