Swap that motor! You can use a motor off of an 87 elite s, 86-87 aero 50, or 89-01 elite 50 and you should be doing at least 40. Make sure the engine is stamped either AFO5 or AF16 and has a 4 bolt intake...

Here are a few pics....

This is the mount fixed and the frame reinforced just to be safe

The almighty Polini BBK :D

Here is the Super Dio intake manifold and carb test fitted

Here are a couple of pics showing the differences between the Super Dio(left) and the SE/05(right) carbs

Close up of the carb: I take it the brass colored fitting is for fuel and the silver for the oil supply?

Side Kickstand welded and functioning :D

This is the color I'm painting the scoot :D Its like a flat olive. I was thinking powdercoat the wheels either bronze or black but not sure yet

Painted the kick cover

that's not true at all about the AF05E engine they also came in the spree's and do not use a CVT type system. So I can say for a fact that AF05E engine's are kind of tricky. The best way to check is to pull the Side cover off the bike and check if it's a CVT type setup.

information on the elite's and spree's. Also I would like to invite all of you Spree / Elite folks to

massive info on this site, and great folks.

Also in conclusion to the AF05E engine, you’re better off getting the AF16E engine. AF16E (94+ Elite’s) have a bigger market for aftermarket parts, from exhaust, to big bore kits and stroker kits as well. I just picked up a Spree last week for 250.00, all I need to do is fab the mount out of the stock (88-XX elite). A friend of mine recommend that you cut 99MM from the left side of the mount, and it will bolt in the stock locations, and you will not loose function of the kick stand.

are spree owners left with the option of the elite/aero engines only? Are there other engines out there that don't require a whole lot of custom fabrication? Kind of like how the 150cc GY6 seems like a popular swap with the Ruckus' (i think..)

Demon kid:

The AF16 would be an ideal choice for sure but its a pretty hard engine to come by. And if you do they are pretty pricey.
I opted for the AF05E with 4 bolt intake because its a much cheaper and plentiful motor. There is much aftermarket as well and I enjoy hunting for rare AF05 parts. You are right about the Spree coming with an unvariated AF05 as well but the Aero50 and SE50 came with 4 bolt intake. Thats the easiest way to tell.
55mph on my Spree is the most I would like to achieve as its a small framed scooter not made for exceeding high speeds without frame reinforcement. Thats about what you can achieve on these motors without extensive internal modification.

Heinz57:
I've seen a ruckus motor swaped into the Spree so in theory you can also swap the GY6 based engines as well. Takes extensive mods but it is possible...
