Is a 5-lug conversion worth it?

Re: Is a 5-lug conversion worth it?
Nope, the 5 lugs won't do anything for you.
As for bigger brakes (regardless of the number of lugs), keep in mind that no brakes will give you any greater stopping power than your tires can handle. If you want better stopping power on the street, the first step to take is to get better, stickier tires. A more aggressive pad compound would be the second step. And a higher temperature brake fluid is the third step to take. And none of these steps requires changing the calipers or rotors. Do all of these things, and you'll probably find that you don't need to change the calipers or rotors at all. Not for street use, anyway.
If you track your car, the big reason for big brakes is to manage the heat of the brakes, more so than for stopping power - IOW to prevent the brakes from getting too hot and cracking rotors too often. And even on the track, your best bet is to take other, less drastic measures first (e.g. pads designed for the racetrack), and only upgrade calipers/rotors if you're still having problems.

The CTR/ITR brakes do weigh alot more than the factory brakes. With that little bit more meat, there is less brake fade, which no one has mentioned yet. Also, the fact that having a facotry brake setup lets you pick up aftermarker parts from most part stores.
A trip to autozone or napa for a rebuild kit for Wilwood 4-pot calipers would be a waste. Factory 98-spec ITR on the other hand...
I just can't get over people saying its just for looks. Wow.

As for wheel choice, I guarantee there are just as many choices in 4x100 as there are in 5x114.3. Wheel choice isn't really a valid justification for converting to 5-lug.
If you get a smoking price on it, and you know that the parts ARE NOT STOLEN, then by all means go for it. But in most cases, you can get the same braking power and have the same wheel choices for less money.

However, the OP has not mentioned any intention of using his car on the track. For street use - his apparent intention - there is no performance reason to get bigger brakes. Of course, you can still do it if your objective is for the bling bling.

Integra 11" kit $630: http://www.fastbrakes.com/ProductDet...DC+11+inch+kit
Or for $120 more you can go up to 12.2" rotors with 4-pot Wilwood calipers (requires 16" or larger wheels): http://www.fastbrakes.com/ProductDet...tegra+140+6163

trade in gsr calipers for legend/itr caliper remans $120
axxis ultimate pads $75
mill calipers $40
prelude vtec blank rotors $80
$315 total which is half of what FB wants. drilling the rotors yourself isn't hard. you can even be a little sloppy since they are hub centric

Re: Is a 5-lug conversion worth it?
you got it reverse man, if you utilize the ITR or CTR rear stock shocks/struts then you would need the ITR LCA. If not, then you would just bolt it on with your original LCA.

for $1000 just the 5-lug covnersion
also ITR has a total different suspension assembly than normal teg
I would spend those $$$$ to lighter wheels OR a nice set of 4 or 6-pot wilwood kit

Re: Is a 5-lug conversion worth it?
I really like the looks of itr 4lugs from earlier itr's,I hate the itr 5lugs we and the jdm's have but the ones that are biggest in size with lots of spokes now that dope!
if the setup comes with rims and the rims I last mentioned I think its worth it,
your getting a nice pair of rims,
better brakes
better suspension
better wh-bearings
and if you ever get sick of it you can easily sell it since its one of those parts that dont loose much value!
I say go for it!

Re: Is a 5-lug conversion worth it?
i once thought of doing the conversion but i didnt want to anymore...why? because i dont track my car and it was just for looks. if you want to do it for looks then be my guess. for some, its a waste of money and for others, its worth it. function or fashion... you pick.

Re: Is a 5-lug conversion worth it?
Since i own a stock 95 dx and a 94 boosted integra ls, would it be worth it to put my integra breaks from all four corners on the civic and then go 5 lug?

Re: Is a 5-lug conversion worth it?
If i was gonna do some circuit racing YES for daily driving and an unmodified car NO!
Besides having ITR setup only increases the chances of peoples eyes on your car and waiting to scheme on you!
I wouldnt recommend it as much as i Love 5 Lug setups

The only people who are against 5-lug are the people who are to broke to afford it. ITR/CTR 5-lug is deffinitly worth it for all reasons function/form wise, and also just looks better.
