Default 2003 Honda CRV, P1259, P1166, HELP

Hello to all of you HONDA experts. We have a 2003 Honda CRV EX, The Crv has 78k miles and has been a fantastic vehicle that has served our family well. We are now having our first problem with our CRV and i need help! Unfortunatly at this time we can not afford to take it to service, so i will attempt to fix it my self with your expertise.

The Crv has an engine malfunction light on. It still drives great, but every now and then it will start to shake almost like a bad missfire. When the car is shut off and re started its fine again?

Autozone pulled the codes for me today but said they are dealer codes and can not help. The codeS pulled are P1259 and also P1166. I have no idea what to do can sombody help me diagnose the problem? I looked online and it said somthing about a vtech switch or a blocked oil passage?

Thanks all please help.

Hello all after doing some research on this board i went out and checked the oil, topped it off. It wasnt to low, i disconected the battery to reset the code. Started it back up and 30 seconds later code came back on.

Is there a way to actually check the Vtec control valve? After looking at some drawings i think this is the thing sticking out of the left side of the engine below the valve cover ( looking at engine from front of car.) Can i check this somehow before i assume it is bad?

Thanks again

P1259
on one forum he detetcted that the cause of this was from the oilfilter/oil
vtec runs on oil pressure, check it first..

The P1166 indicates a problem with the primary O2 sensor on your catalytic converter. You'll need to replace it. as stated..

try also checking with hondasuv.com or crvownersclub.com theres a lot of gurus there...
