Default My build :: d16z6 vitara

I have been working on this for a long time, and finally got the engine together. I hope to install it in a week or so and tow it straight over to my tuner.

I thought you guys would like to see it from start to finish. I always like seeing other peoples builds.

I have swapped a z6 into a crx before, but I had a question about a few things.

do I have to hook up the vacuum line off the EVAP purge soliniod? (back right hand corner of manifold?)

vitara's don't come factory in anything, they are aftermarket cast pistons that have an extremely low compression ratio excellent for boosting SOHC honda engines , but they are reliable to a certain point and they are very cheap for a set of pistons. there are two companies making vitara's that i currently know of, Nippon and YCP with YCP being the better of the two. the last i checked i think someone was making close to 500whp on vitara pistons, it may even be past that by now

wow did the suzukis really have low compression pistons like that from the factory, i always thought vitaras were only aftermarket.

i can't imagine how sluggish a N/A car would be with C:R's like that

2000 vitara is 9.5:1 2009 is 10:1. the rods length and head have a lot to do with CR, but the pistons have the right wrist pin height and bore to work with the d16. Their ring lands are pretty substantial too. If you're boosting its a good setup. FJT makes custom rods to help raise the CR back up to more of a stock number.

is this true about the suzuki vitara pistons being the same that we drop into our d series and are they out of the v6 version or the 4 cylinder?

well, the turbo oil return will depend on the manifold and turbo for placement.

I ended up welding a male -10 AN bung to the oilpan after I mock fitted everything up to check clearance.

there are also options to thread a fitting through the pan and use a push on hose. check out fastturbo they have some options.

eagle rods require "notching" so they can rotate. They are much thicker than stock rods.

here is a good explanation:
