Can someone link me a guide on how to remove the front bumper?

There are 2 screws at the corners of the bumper, inside the outer edge of the fenderwell that have to come out.

As well as removing the clips and 2 bolts on the cooling "plate" above the radiator, and if I remember correctly, the bumper should come off at that point, with minimal pulling and manipulation.

It Wasn't Me

A. Under the hood you'll find these four clips holding the top of the grill & bumper to the car. Remove all four of them.

B. Remove these two screws located at the edge of the fender well, in front of each tire.

C. Under the bumper: Remove these two screws (one on each side) and all the clips (similar to the ones under the hood, but do not mix them up. they are a little different)

With all the screws and clips removed: Pull the edges of the bumper (at the fender well) away from the car while simultaneously pulling foward.
It's a lot easier than it looks. Make sure you don't drop the bumper on it's face. Once it's loose, it tends to want to fall forward. I put an old military blanket on the ground to prevent scratching.

Well, that's pretty close seeing as you haven't owned an EM2 for quite some time.

No bolts on the radiator shroud, bud. Just some pop-clips.

Right on... it's been a while, and I have never needed to remove the bumper on the wifes car. I DID forget about the screws on the bottom though.

Now, anyone know who sells PAINTED bumpers? body shops want like $400 to paint it and I dont have any painting tools or a place to let it dry and not pass out from the fumes.

called almost a dozen junkyards, no one has a matching one

A good place to look.... but they dont come PREPAINTED, is http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com.
You can get a brand new, fresh bumper shell/cover for 160 bucks, but you will have to get it painted.

They deal with all Original parts... also check with a company called Keystone... they deal with automotive crash parts, so they should be able to get you an ok deal.

$400 to paint a bumper?!?! What a rip off!!

My bill was $650. The dents in my drivers door are being fixed (a deer ran into my car) and the door will be repainted. The dent in my trunk lid will be fixed and painted. My bumper will be repainted and my passenger door will be buffed out.

Well, a new bumper is $160 of Honda.
the labor is $45 per hour with like 9 hours worth of painting. I dont know if they are charging for drying time but they quoted me $800 to replace the front bumper, buff the hood and infer fenders.

160k worth of highway milage. bumper is mostly chipped and mounting screws are broken in a few places.

do you know how body shops do color matching
this place told me that all they need is my vin and they have some software that figures out the way the paint should look after so many years. is that how other places do it?

I'm no expert, but I think most body shops use specialized software with cameras that shoot from multiple angles to a get a really close match. If you buy online you usually give the painter the factory color code (its usually in the sill of the driver door) and year of the car. I think they use software to estimate color fade for a better match.

Also, I'm using a guy on ebay now that sells parts painted and shipped for around $230 for a civic bumper and $170 for a fender. His feedback is pretty good, but we'll so how the product looks when it gets here. I don't really care if his color match isn't perfect if it saves me $800 over a regular body shop job. Sometimes their paint isn't perfect either.

long story short. taht ebay parts turned out to be utter ****.
got a full refund for it though.
bought OEM parts, went to a body shop, had them paint it. new headlights, side panel, inner fenders, grill and all that was around $330 in parts and almost $600 for paint.
got it done right, matches perfectly.

Looks very similar to my 2004 sedan bumper mounting in the 2001-2003 pictures.

Pretty similar, I've removed my 2005 EX 2 door coupe bumper several times. Here's the best way:
1. Underneath the front of the car, pry out the 6-7 small round black fasteners (inside bigger round black fasteners)FIRST with a flat-head screwdriver, then remove the big part(pull it out). Also unscrew the 2 screws.
2. In the front wheel opening, there is 1 screw on each side (phillips?) that holds the bumper to the fender. Right by the line where the 2 parts meet. Remove these.
3. Similar to step 1, remove the 4 fasteners (like shown in pic) above your stock plastic grill. Pull the bumper out and away from the car. That's it.

Do the steps in reverse order to put it back on. You'll need a little adjusting around the headlight area and to the side. Hope that helps! It's easy..
