Default OH! Honda challenge question! pick me! pick me! (classification for ED)

i've got an 88 Civic 4 door DX with a D16a6. (88-91 Si/EX motor)
where would i be? i'm not really thinking it's a "hybrid" because the sedan was availabe with the motor, just not in DX trim? i dunno. it's still a long way till i figure out what car i'll end up running, but i have this one laying around and thought if i could use it for H4 or something, then i'll keep it. because H4 is where the DX hatches with D16a6's go, isn't it?

i'm looking at rule 7.10.1 cause i beleive the only difference in a DX vers. EX sedan is the sunroof.
thanks for clarification! glad i could find a rule to go with.

well, that's what i was thinking. what's the difference? or is that what you're guessing? i'd prefer H4. i don't think it'd be so hot in H2.

he's right, not guessing.. it can run H4 at 2150lbs (i think this is allowed as part of the body swap thing) or it can run H2 at 2000 lbs with an unrestricted compression, cam, and intake manifold..

H2 would be Limited Prep, for an engine swap, which sounds like what you are thinking about with the engine.

I would say H5, if you update the DX to everything the EX had. I know the front brakes are different in the EX model.

The Si model of the Civic and CRX are classed in H4, but the EX should be NOC (not otherwise classed).

BTW, the '90-'91 EXs didn't have a sunroof, standard (not that it matters).

Keith, who drives a '90 Civic EX to work now and then...

thanks keith. you know who this is for. hahahaa. i knew about the front brakes, i just forgot. but i don't think there was an EX in 88 which could screw me because of the rear suspension design. but i could upgrade that to 89+. the motor will remain stock. i don't feel the need to make my wife fast in a straight line. atleast not yet. i was thinking the "NOC" H5 route, but i don't need to be protested. i just need to figure out if i can use what i've got or if i should dump it and get something else. i would LIKE to see an EF four door out there doing battle. plus, it's just sitting at my work anyways with the d16 swap done, a new clutch, new axles, ground controls and a new radiator. some key parts to a decent track day "beginner" honda challenge car, atleast i think. plus i like the idea of the longer wheelbase being more stable than, say, a CRX.

There are different ways to interpret the following for H4 classing:
(Cut and Pasted from http://www.nasaproracing.com/r...e.pdf)

Year Make Model Motor Trim Note Weight
88-91 Honda Civic 1.6L Si 2150

However, I don't see the EX listed under "Trim" for the 88-91. I feel it should be covered under NOC in H5.

Same for the 4th gen. Civic Wagon "Realtime".

clearly an oversite, which should be addressed with no issue.

That is like saying the 92-95 Civic SI is in H4, but the 92-95 civic EX is in H5, even though they are the same cars, motor, tranny, and suspension.

1.6 liter PGMI non vtec 4th gen civic will be in h4.....the DUAL POINT Engine powered 4th gen civics will be h5....

as simple as that....cause i'll build a 4th gen lx and go out and wax h5....that engine tranny platform is the same as the civic si and crx si and does wax h5 cars now so......

ok. that's exactly the kind of thing i wanted to know. like i posted originally, i knew i was to be in h4 or h2, just which of the two i did not know. i appreciate all the help. so, i "could" be in H4. which is just fine with me. i just don't want to be in H2. i could also just drop in a b series and go to H1. hahahaa. no.

ok. i'll be looking at the rules now closely so what i need to stay in H4. expect a few more questions soon.

You can run H2 with the B series, if Limited Prep (though not necessarily the best place to start).

Get Carrie out to run with us, and you keep driving the "girlie" car!
