Icon7 1990 Honda CRX Si Restoration / AWD Build

Ok, this will take a while lol

:Slight history on the car:
Originally from Scottsdale AZ, bought the car from a girl who broke her foot and needed money for medical bills, she didn't know it was an Si. I paid 2,000 for the car with 154k miles, all original.

:Long story short:
I was cruising down the highway coming back from a camping trip, chasing this chopper going about 110-120 for a while, he got off the highway, I waved at him and then shortly after that I threw a rod. POOF.

Went and picked up the car, towed it home and started to strip it down and pull the motor.

:Build for the car:

:Body:

New Seals *everywhere*

:Current Progress:
Right now I've got everything removed except for the steering, brake lines, and suspension.
The doors, hood, rear hatch, all of the glass, gas tank/filler neck, dash, all of the wiring removed.
Getting ready to cut out the old subframe and fab in the new

Thinking about putting in a small roll cage/bars and strengthening up the rear towers while it's all gutted out, as the CRX was not meant to have power/twisting back there. I've seen lots of different setups back there, but i don't like a lot of them. I want something minimal, but effective.

This is what i looked like the day I got it

How it looked the day I towed it home

Hole in the block

Engine Pulled

New Engine!

Once I moved it to the back garage

More teardown

Before the Dry Ice

Dry Ice mode

After the Dry Ice

No Glass or wires and what it looks like for the most part now

More Pictures to come!

I also have A LOT of dumb pictures of little things as i took apart the car, so if you need any reference pictures, let me know

I know I need a cable shifter of some sort, but haven't figured out which one I need for this.
Also I still need a GSR Throttle cable

so yea, close to double the HP, ALL OBD1 wiring, fresh paint/seals/bushings, and AWD!

In all of the homework I've done online, I haven't found anyone who has done what i'm doing to a CRX. There's a few Civics, Del Sols, and Integras, that are B-swapped and AWD but very few of them, and even fewer with build threads/info on how it's done.

I know I'm missing something..

Feel free to ask me any questions, to correct me if i'm wrong, or doing something dumb, as this is my first build/swap.

I've done a LOT of research and I'd like to think I know what I'm doing.

Any and all comments/ideas are welcome!

*note to admins, I really didn't know what section to put this in. move it if it makes sense*

:Now some of the major changes I'll have to make:

custom header and exhaust, kicked off to the side and runs next to the driveline/vc
mount for the cable shifter
subframe mounting
shorten the wagon rear trailing arms
all sorts of braces in the rear end

:Once I get the car running and drivable:
chip and tune the ECU
brakes
suspension
front and rear lip
effective spoiler
front splitter
rear dampener

changing the small stuff after it's running isn't a bid deal, even an engine swap wouldn't be tricky after it's all done, because it'll wired and setup for it all.

I'd suggest putting this in the EF subforum too. An interesting build! The CRV/Wagon AWD mash up will be awesome when you get it together. I'm not sure what class you will be in as far as autox, but you'll have a blast with AWD. I'd suggest some anti-sway bars to go along with your suspension. But that's very personal and depends on how you like the car to handle. Tackle the AWD drivetrain first!

Hole. Lee. ****.

Might as well do RW steering while you're at it...

Also, why the dual walbro 255's? One can easily support north of 400whp.

i want to build it so i don't ever have to worry about it

i plan on swapping to a low compression turbo motor in the future, and don't want to have to change anything for that.

thx tho, should be lots of fun when i'm done with it

why would you not use those bushings? anything bad about them?

i've seen/heard good things about them so far, but i'd like to hear what you have to say about them

they make great bushings, the rear trailing arm bushings move/ rotae on two axis'. the energy suspension bushing only allow one axis, which binds the suspension up and can cause the rear to snap over steer. makes for very unpredictable rear end rotation.

look up oem/mugen, whiteline(what I run),hardrace....they need to allow for rotation side to side, up and down and also twis to have the rear trailing arm move fluidly

edit: read up

I've been waiting to see how this has been coming along. I'm on xceed also.

I've been wanting to do this to an EF Hatch for a while now. Im very interested in how this all works out for you.

UPDATE:

i got a car rotisserie from a friend, and i'm in the process of mounting some 4 inch square tubing to the bumper supports, and then mount that onto the rotisserie.

i also cut off the rear subframe to make room for the civic wagon subframe
