Better Syncros?! (GSR Tranny question)
I was curious if there were better syncros I could use when I rebuild my GSR tranny. It currently has the high rpm grind in third. I 'am planning on doing a 6 puck with lightened flywheel also, but was curious if there are better syncros I could use to make them stronger.

Grinds are not always caused by worn synchros. Many things could case a grind, and you wont know for sure until you tear the trans apart and clean then inspect all parts.

Re: Better Syncros?! (GSR Tranny question)
I have taken many b series transmissions apart when they just start getting a high rpm grind. If it has not been beat too bad the parts can sometimes be reused with the exception of the synchro and ring. Replaced with synchrotechs carbon and new ring...good as new. Actually, the gsr tranny in my car currently was like this. If you push them for a while grinding the sleeve and dog teeth will fail in short time.
If you think aout how a synchronizer works you will soon realize that most worn sleeves and dog teeth are caused by old age wear and tear, and grinding from a loss of synchro function. Sometimes just straight up abusive speed shifting. Oem synchros are not overbuilt, so a little wear or fluid disagreements is all it can take to start the occasional grind. I never had luck replacing only the parts other than the synchro when this happens, even if its within oem spec for wear.
Can't wait for the mfactory/synchrotech b series double cone setup to come out, I ordered it quite some time ago...

Comes with 3rd and 4th sychros AND springs. You should check first, but you might also need the 3rd gear cone/dog teeth - http://shop.synchrotech-transmission...-H22-SG120.htm
But still, I would disassemble everything and inspect what you have. You might not need all of that, or you might need more... You wont know until you get it apart!

Re: Better Syncros?! (GSR Tranny question)
I personally like the use of OE synchros and generally they arent damaged 9 out of 10 times its going to be a damaged sleeve and more than likely you either missed a gear in the past or your clutch pedal travel isnt adjusted properly giving you high rpm shifting issues which caused you to damage the 3/4 sleeve. FYI if they arent completely rounded off you can reshape them with good results.
I fought 3rd gear high rpm grinds for years. After lots of trans repairs realized it was clutch pedal travel adjustment needed. after i did that never had the issue again on the car with a single disc in it again.

First damage is to the sleeve and dog teeth, which then allows damage to the synchro. If the sleeve gets messed up enough from forceful grinding while driving it won't come off the hub....
Yep, had to order more parts from Synchrotech today. Simple "3-4 grind" fix is up to $500 in parts...
