How do I remove the antenna mast?
Does anyone here know how to remove the antenna mast? I bought a replacement off of Ebay and it came with instructions that seem easy enough. However, I don't know how to loosen the "nut" that holds the antenna mast on (on the outside of the car).
If you trace the mast to the base (where it contacts with the car), you will see a rounded metal piece with 4 "slots". I am uncertain of what type of tool I need to try and loosen this piece without damaging it.
Any advice??!

where the antenna is. there will be like slots. around in a circle, they have a tool for this but u can use some needle nose pliers and a towel. thats how i did it. place the pliers into the groove and push, just be careful not to hit your car with them. after a couple turns maybe like 2-3minutes then it will be loose enough for u to pull off there will be like a rubber gasket type thing plastic i think holding it down so just pull it up you will be fine.

Re: How do I remove the antenna mast? (shrekz)
I am having major trouble loosening this "nut" and have even put a light scratch or two in my rear quarter panel now because of it. This is getting real frustrating. I ended removing the old antenna mast and the power antenna unit from inside the trunk but can't install the new mast without getting that nut off.
Any other suggestions??

Forget it...used a set of pliers and twisted that sucker hard. It was a PITA but at least it is off.
Thanks for the previous help.

If only I had seen your post earlier.
You could have avoided some scratches.
There are a few ways to do this.
1.
They are called snap ring pliers.
They are pliers with two little perpendicular prongs that stick out at the tip, they will grip onto the to notches.
2.
Use a shop towel and a screw driver and a hammer.
3.
There is a socket that will fit into it.

I've replaced mine 3-4 times. I wrap electrical (plastic or rubber) around the chrome nut. Doesn't matter if the edge sticks up. Then use my big Channel-Lock pliers. Be gentle. The rubber will protect the chrome as well as give you better grip.
