I drove a 2000 CRV quite a bit in the snow this year and it was great. I also had on a set of Kumho snow thires that did awesome. I never had any issues getting around, but how much snow are you looking at "plowing" through. I think for a winter car this would be a good choice.

i live in canada...and my '99 CR-V has had no problems in any of the snow that the north has thrown at me. I've driven on the highways with tons of snow coming down and i've been ok.
But then again...no matter what car u have, as long as you drive SAFE and carfeully, you should be ok. But because of the height and Realtime 4wd, i've been able to plow through streets that haven't been plowed before
to CR-V's in the snow.

excellent. snow tires make it even better.
hell, i got a 2wd Ford F-350 stuck in a bad snow bank saturday(it snowed 6 inches in one day) i was walking back and a buddy in a new CR-V was going by. luckily i had a chain in the truck.
that little honda pulled my work truck out of the snow. pretty impressive considering the size of the truck versus the honda.

well, here's the thing. im in the police academy, and its getting drilled to us that there is no such thing as not going to work cuz of incliment weather. i have a 94 GSR. I survived the only big snow storm w/ awesome snow tires. i wanna be reassure that i can make it to work regardless of weather. and if i get the CRV, i am planning on equiping it w/ good snow tires as well.

i've also been considering the CR-V. but, i think i'll go with an Isuzu VehiCross. the isuzu will go a little further down the trail and has a true 4wd system. plus, i actually like the looks and the handling for its type is phenomonal.
the CR-V is an excellent choice. it does have the new k-series and it has more backseat room than a civic. plus, its a honda.
good luck man.

all things considering, your from maryland right? it doesn't snowasmuchthere, altho ive seen the weather that you guys just got hit back to back. i would opt for a 1.5 gen cr-v for the extra hp andstyling alone. but if you can afford,go for the 2nd gen.
my experience. good overall car in wet/snow/ice roads. and i just use all weather tires.

my parents have a 2nd gen CRV........ last winter my crx slid off the road and into a bit of a ditch. with the crv firmly planted on a completely icy/snowy road it pulled my crx out without breakin traction at all......... i was very impressed even though my rex was small, it was effortless to pull me out.
now during the blizzard of 03 last year we tested the crv to its limits trying to go thru a drift that was basically 2-3 ft high......... it did get stuck but only because the snow was hitting the front bumper........ hehe

well power has nothing to do with the ability to plow through snow though, my old car had 73 hp and it could go anywhere its ground clearance would allow it to go, its all about the tires and the driver...CRV AWD would be good though my impreza is amazing in the snow and we get ALOT of snow here.

we love out VRC/V/CRV, what ever you want to call it.
we diden't want full time 4x4 and we tested thje Rav 4 but I diden't like the power band and it was too small.
as for the v in snow it rocks I have to say. there is not one occasion where I coulden't get out of the drive way. But no matter what you drive if you block it to the frame and the tires lose the weight on the ground your stuck.
I would like an awd option or even a switch to go from real time to awd, but I don't really need it as I don't use it for off road or any thing like that.
I'm waiting for comptech to come out with a honda factory supported super charger upgrade...........................on the V that would be one awsome upgrade.
But for driveability in summer and snow its a great rig.
