Default spark plugs STUCK, how to remove?

My plugs are stuck and I cant get them out. It feels like Im gonna snap them in half if I pull any harder and I definitely dont want to break them. Any tips to avoid breaking them? Should I be doing this when the motor is warm or cold?

Yeah, what he said...I guess someone didnt put anti-seize on them Try warming up the car a little. Try spraying a LITTLE slick 50 or something down there and let it soak. Then warm the motor up a bit, making sure everything isnt covered in that **** and they should come out.
If not , tell a friend you dont have the time to do a tune up on your car and you'll give him 10 bucks to do it. When he says yes, its now his problem

OK, just in your first post it said, "It feels like Im gonna snap them in half if I pull any harder", made me think you were trying to pull something out.

Well, removing the plugs when the motor is HOT may increase the chances of the aluminum threads in the head coming out with them. Of course they may be tad looser when the head is warm.......

I'd first try putting some motor oil down in the recess, maybe about a tablespoon, and let it sit overnight. Might work best if the engine is warm to keep the oil thin.

New plugs should go in with a LITTLE never-seize on the threads of the plugs.

The quality of the threads on sparkplugs varies by brand. Some of the cheaper plugs have really nasty threads.

Also make sure that your sparkplug socket isn't binding into the tube around the plugs.

Good luck,
John

Have you busted out the cheater bar yet? lol.

It's pretty cold in the NorthEast... as you said, probably has something to do with it... maybe warm it up to "regular room temp"... before trying it.

I have personally had a plug seize in my head. The fugger broke off very easily when I was attempting to remove it. Like someone else said already, drop some oil down in the hole in the valve cover overnight and see if it will loosen the plug up. Make sure you use anti-seize in the future and torque the new plugs to spec.

pete I know not to tighten them down too much. I usually just snug them suckers. But these bad boys feel like they are torqued down with an industrial sized impact gun.

heres an idea if you think they were put in with an impact gun get a long extention+socket and use an impact gun to take them out. be very easy with it though just give it a little zap with the air gun and see if that will make the little bugger come out.... good luck

My head gasket was going causing my engine to heat up a bit therefore seizing the plug in the head. I don't think that's the case with this guy, but I ALWAYS use anti seize now. I look at it as cheap insurance...just my 2 cents.

Spray some PB Blaster down in the holes and let it sit for 5 minutes.

I'd probably try all this with the engine cold...and I always anti-seize

heard story about stuck plug because someone used a socket wrench to tighten it up without handtightening first.

another alternative for anti-serze is motor oil, a drop on the thread will save alot of headache next time for plug change

1 Go to the hardware store and buy a can of Gunk's "Liquid Wrench Super Penetrant - A powerful blend of quick-acting, fast penetrating solvents that loosens rusted nuts, bolts, and parts in seconds."
2 Spray it on liberally minute you get home. Hot better than cold cuz oil will penetrate better.
3 Let sit for 2 hours.
4 Warm engine up. Hotter is better as things will loosen up the hotter they get esp. given plug is steel and expands less than the aluminum head (differences in coefficient of thermal expansion).
5Make sure socket outer diameter is not binding/rubbing on head.
6 Put socket over plug. Tap on ratchet handle with a hammer to help shock plug loose.
7 Torque them babies out.

maybe try doing this when the motor is warm. and as others said, pour some oil, see if it gose through. always use anti-seize on spark plugs, just apply to the first thread.
