Default Whats wrong with my car?!? LOUD engine, flapping sound.

I was coming home from work tonight, not racing, just driving about 40mph, and my car was fine. On the street to my house, the engine was getting really loud. By the time I hit my driveway, the engine was REALLY loud, and it had a sound like a belt flapping. No problem, I thought, I broke a belt, easy fix. Well its night-time here and I cant see any broken belts. The car didnt start right away, but after I let it set, it started back up.

So, I see no busted belts, so im leaning toward a bad dizzy. Its not a "screech" that distributors make on their way out, though. It sounds like a bad knocking coming from the bottom end and aweful ideas are coming to my head (I.E. rod knock) but it came on literally in about a minute, so thats kind of far fetched. Cap and rotor and brand new as are all belts minus a t-belt from the 90k service, the car now has 122k on it. I have crower 404's that havent given me any more problems than the usual install grief, and they have less than 3k on them with a fully rebuilt head (EVERYTHING is new). I have no idea what is going on, and its dark and cold and I dont wanna shell money to fix an engine thats going to be swapped soon. Ideas? flywheel? rod bolt? bearings? *sigh*

check timing belt. flapping means the belt came loose and skipped a tooth. This will result in bad idle and sound

possible rod, hitting the block. does it get louder or hit harder when reved? A rod bolt could be about to go. This is what happened to my d16, it starting making flapping and knocking noise from the bottom end, couldn't figure out what it was until the rod went through the block, and then i saw the problem

My idle is always bad, I have crower 404's, dude. Im just going to swap in another engine, I have a b16 in my garage, so i just give up on this one. Its a little long in the tooth to be spending money on.
