Default SOHC VTEC Mini-Me Quarter Mile Time...VERY HAPPY

Well, this weekend I finally got a chance to take my working mini-me to the track, with the goal of breaking into the 15's...and did it. The first time I went to the track, I ran my stock D15B7 with I/E and ran a 16.9 @ 81 with a shitty 2.4 60ft. I did my mini-me swap, and went to Englishtown and ran a 17.3 @ 78 best with a horrid 2.5 60ft...I didn't get lower than that at all that day. I didn't know what the hell was wrong. I then discovered that I forgot to pull an oil jet in the block that makes VTEC activate. I did that, and didn't have a chance to get to the track until now. I was running consistent 16.1' with 2.3 60fts, and I got the 60ft down to 2.2 for the last run and was rewarded with a 15 second timeslip. I'm very pleased with the results, and I have an EX tranny waiting to be installed (as soon as I get a new clutch). After that, i'm going to upgrade my header and exhaust system, and slap a cam in there. I want to have 14's before I start modifying the bottom end.

Current Setup:
1993 Honda Civic LX Sedan (Weighed in at 2320 lbs without driver)
D15B7 Block and Tranny
D16Z6 Head / Intake Manifold / Exhaust Manifold
Full Interior with Spare Tire, Tools
Short Ram Intake w/ removed headlight
Welded-on straight through eBay muffler
Stock Cat/Exhaust Piping
Original Clutch w/ 160,000 miles
No PS belt
175/50/13 All-Season tires on 13" VX Wheels @ 23psi

Timeslip:

Glad to hear you got everything running right. Times look good. You doing this with a dx tranny? keep us informed with your d series buildup.

That's pretty impressive, especially the fact that you ran it in a 4 door with a DX tranny and original clutch. I just put together a mini-me using a B2 bottom, and I'm a little curious to see what it will run. It's in a 88 hatch, so I'd be happy with mid to high 15's on street tires. Good luck with the further enhancements to the motor.

Yeah...DX tranny is a big 's. However, if you read my VX wheel thread ( https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=629535 ) you'll see that having the 175/50/13 tires helps a lot in terms of gearing. I'm really looking forward to a new clutch and EX tranny...

oh yeah...forgot to mention that...23 PSI

the tires are really ******* small so I didn't want to run the pressure TOO low, I started with 25 and moved down to 23...it seemed to be a good balance

The tires:

nice time. a new clutch, better tranny, cam, header, test pipe and some weight reduction and you just might have a shot at high 14's. its gonna be tough but who knows. good luck

Default Tire size

Have you done a tire size comparison yet?

Stock sive vs. 175/50/13s?

I know how losing almost three inches in diameter feels.
But numbers would be good.

Look at the end of the VX wheel thread...

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by BauleyCivic &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">
I thought it did...I only ran once with the 15" pirellis (16.4 w/ 2.4 60ft)...with the 13" sumis, I immediately dropped 3 tenths (16.1 w/ 2.3 60ft) and eventually got my best run in with them (15.9 w/ 2.2 60ft). They are actually pretty damn sticky, I had to cook em before each run though...it was awesome!

Here is an interesting comparo of the sumi's vs the pirelli's with similar 60fts-

195/50/15 Pirelli P700-Z on Integra LS wheels:
60ft: 2.400
1/8: 10.531
MPH: 68.00
1/4: 16.407
MPH: 84.08

175/50/13 Sumitomo HTR200 on Civic VX Wheels:
60ft: 2.451
1/8: 10.594
MPH: 66.53
1/4: 16.406
MPH: 85.09

You can see the difference...with the civic VX wheels at the 1/8 mile I was .06 seconds behind and 1.5 MPH behind my other run, and at the 1/4 mile I was .01 seconds ahead and 1 MPH ahead of my original run. So, in the second half of the run, I only gained a tenth of a second, but on the other hand I did gain a whopping 2.5 MPH with the VX wheels, and I had an overall better run with a worse 60ft...not bad at all </TD></TR></TABLE>

Good run Bauley.

Get that EX tranny in there and let's see you drop a few tenths off your time!

congrats on the improvements
I would suggest doing a little weight reduction
I've ran 9.8s in the 1/8th with a d15b7, mostly just boltons. I think dropping some weight should really help, and no doubt the ex trans is gonna bring you down probably 3 tenths at least. You have a good platform to build on though.

Congrats! It's a great feeling when you can see an improvement in performance. Wait till you start running 14s you'll have a fun street car.

Practice makes perfect. Nto sure about the power difference between a mini me and a DOHC ZC motor, but my buddy pulled a 15.5 with his ZC Civic WAGON.
